The number of unemployed people continues to fall in Balears and has reached historic lows<\/strong>. In April, the number of unemployed people stood at 24,546<\/strong>, a year-on-year fall of 7.8%<\/strong>, with 2,080 fewer people unemployed<\/strong> than a year earlier, according to figures presented by the Ministry of Labour, Public Administration and Social Dialogue.<\/p>\n

The figure also represents a historic low for the archipelago, even below the levels recorded in June 2025. Compared with March, unemployment also fell by 7.4%<\/strong>, with 1,972 fewer people<\/strong> registered with the public employment services.<\/p>\n

Minister Catalina Cabrer said that \u201cthe Islands are already at full employment\u201d and stressed that the Balearic labour market \u201cis stable, strong and dynamic\u201d.<\/p>\n

Balears exceeds 605,000 people in employment and sets a new record<\/h3>\n

Social Security affiliation reached 605,630 people<\/strong> in Balears in April, a historic record and a year-on-year increase of 3.1%<\/strong>, with 18,277 more people in employment<\/strong> than a year earlier.<\/p>\n

Mallorca accounts for 456,942 affiliated workers<\/strong>, while Ibiza has 63,401<\/strong>; Menorca, 32,618<\/strong>; and Formentera, 3,609<\/strong>. All the islands recorded year-on-year increases.<\/p>\n

Compared with March, affiliation rose by 12.1%<\/strong> in Balears, well above the national increase.<\/p>\n

Unemployment falls across all islands and drops by 10.8% among the long-term unemployed<\/h3>\n

By island, unemployment fell across the archipelago. The sharpest year-on-year fall was recorded in Formentera (-18.5%<\/strong>), followed by Menorca (-14.7%<\/strong>), Mallorca (-7.5%<\/strong>) and Ibiza (-5.2%<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

The administrative unemployment rate stands at 3.9%<\/strong>, four tenths lower than a year ago. This indicator, which measures the number of people registered with the public employment services as unemployed, confirms Balears as the Spanish region with the lowest rate in the country.<\/p>\n

The fall in unemployment was particularly marked among women (-8.1%<\/strong>), people aged over 25 (-8.1%<\/strong>) and EU foreign nationals (-9.6%<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

The fall among the long-term unemployed was also notable, at 10.8%<\/strong>. According to the Ministry, this performance reflects the positive impact of the SOIB\u2019s Intensive Monitoring Plan (Plan SI), aimed especially at people aged over 45 with basic education.<\/p>\n

Permanent contracts account for 75% of all contracts in Balears<\/h3>\n

In April, 43,725 contracts<\/strong> were signed in Balears, 8.4%<\/strong> more than in the same month last year. The increase was particularly notable in Ibiza (+19.4%<\/strong>), while Mallorca recorded a rise of 6.7%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Compared with March, hiring increased by 33.3%<\/strong>, driven especially by the Pityusic Islands.<\/p>\n

In addition, 75%<\/strong> of all contracts registered were permanent, well above the national average of 43.2%<\/strong>. Balears therefore continues to lead Spain\u2019s regional ranking for permanent contracts.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the special scheme for self-employed workers reached 105,972 affiliates<\/strong> in April, accounting for 17.5%<\/strong> of total employment in the archipelago.
