Palma\u2019s Casal Solleric will inaugurate two new artistic proposals next Thursday, 30 April<\/strong>: \u201cWunderkammer\u201d<\/strong>, by renowned international photographer Joan Fontcuberta<\/strong>, and \u201cHab\u00eda en el fondo del mar\u201d<\/strong>, by artist Nuria Mora<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The exhibitions were presented this Monday by Palma City Council\u2019s first deputy mayor and councillor for Culture, Javier Bonet<\/strong>, accompanied by artists Joan Fontcuberta and Nuria Mora, the curators of the exhibitions, Iv\u00e1n de la Nuez<\/strong> and Pilar Rub\u00ed<\/strong>, and Cort\u2019s general coordinator for Culture and Tourism, Fernando G\u00f3mez de la Cuesta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A delegation from the Toni Catany International Photography Centre Foundation<\/strong> also attended, headed by its president, Llu\u00eds Segura<\/strong>, and its director, Antoni Garau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWunderkammer\u201d, one of the major highlights of Mallorca PhotoFest<\/h2>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

The exhibition \u201cWunderkammer\u201d<\/strong> forms part of the \u201cGal\u00e0xia Fontcuberta\u201d<\/strong> project, created through the collaboration between Palma City Council and the Toni Catany Foundation. This proposal is structured around two venues and two complementary exhibitions.<\/p>\n

On the one hand, \u201cWunderkammer\u201d<\/strong> can be visited at Casal Solleric<\/strong> until 5 July<\/strong>. On the other, the Toni Catany Foundation, based in Llucmajor, will host \u201cLa v\u00eda l\u00e1ctea. Retratar \u00e1rboles\u201d<\/strong>, which will open on Wednesday, 29 April<\/strong> and remain open to the public until 27 September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fontcuberta\u2019s exhibition in Palma proposes a non-linear journey through history, with references ranging from dinosaurs to the Spanish conquest of America and Darwin\u2019s research. The proposal is part of the first edition of Mallorca PhotoFest<\/strong><\/a>, a festival that takes over from Palma Photo and has been launched by the gallery association Art Palma Contemporani<\/strong>, with the support of institutions and organisations.<\/p>\n

During the presentation, the councillor for Culture, Javier Bonet, highlighted \u201cthe immense honour\u201d it represents for Palma and for Casal Solleric to host the work of an artist with more than five decades of experience in photography, teaching, essay writing and exhibition curation.<\/p>\n

Joan Fontcuberta, an international benchmark in photography<\/h2>\n

Born in Barcelona in 1955, Joan Fontcuberta<\/strong> is one of the leading figures in contemporary photography. His work forms part of collections held by major international institutions such as the MoMA in New York<\/strong>, the Art Institute of Chicago<\/strong>, the Centre Pompidou in Paris<\/strong>, the MACBA in Barcelona<\/strong> and the IVAM in Valencia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Throughout his career, he has received major awards, including the National Photography Award<\/strong> in 1998 and the prize awarded by the Hasselblad Foundation<\/strong> in 2013. In 2021, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Sorbonne University in Paris<\/strong>, and in 2026 the Government of Catalonia granted him the Creu de Sant Jordi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nuria Mora presents \u201cHab\u00eda en el fondo del mar\u201d<\/h2>\n

Alongside Fontcuberta\u2019s exhibition, Casal Solleric will also host \u201cHab\u00eda en el fondo del mar\u201d<\/strong>, an intervention by Nuria Mora<\/strong> conceived specifically for this cultural space in Palma.<\/p>\n

The proposal forms part of the programme for the new edition of Biennal B<\/strong>, a cultural event promoted by the Consell de Mallorca<\/strong> and Es Baluard Museu d\u2019Art Contemporani de Palma<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mora\u2019s intervention takes the form of an underwater setting in which visitors can discover different treasures connected to the building\u2019s architecture. The artist has developed a proposal that engages directly with the spaces of Casal Solleric and its heritage dimension.<\/p>\n

A career linked to international contemporary art<\/h2>\n

Born in Madrid in 1974, Nuria Mora<\/strong> has a solid artistic career and has exhibited her work in international galleries and museums such as Tate Modern in London<\/strong>, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Johannesburg<\/strong> and the Roman Forum Hall of the Ambrosian Library in Milan<\/strong>, where she developed her most recent project, entitled \u201cCinderella\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This will not be the first time Mora has presented her work in Mallorca. The artist has previously exhibited at the Pilar i Joan Mir\u00f3 Foundation<\/strong>, as well as at the Joan Mir\u00f3 Foundation in Barcelona<\/strong>, Matadero Madrid<\/strong> and La Casa Encendida<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For the organisation of this exhibition, Palma City Council has collaborated with the Club Mar\u00edtimo de Palma<\/strong> and Gerreria Pere Coll<\/strong>, located in P\u00f2rtol, Marratx\u00ed, where the artist has been preparing her intervention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
