Traffic restrictions in Formentor will be applied again in Mallorca during the 2026 high season. The regulation affects the Ma-2210 road, which connects Port de Pollen\u00e7a with Formentor beach and the lighthouse, one of the island\u2019s most visited spots.<\/p>\n

According to the updated information provided by the Directorate-General for Traffic, the restrictions will be in force from 15 May to 18 October 2026<\/strong>, both dates included, from 10:00 to 22:00<\/strong>. During this period, access by private vehicle will be limited on several sections and only certain authorised vehicles, public transport, bicycles and essential services will be allowed to circulate.<\/p>\n

The measure aims to improve road safety, prevent traffic jams on a particularly sensitive mountain road and reduce vehicle pressure in an area of great scenic and environmental value.<\/p>\n

Outside these hours, access is possible by private vehicle, although drivers should always take extra care, as this is a narrow, winding road with heavy tourist traffic and limited parking areas.<\/p>\n

The DGT also warns that, due to the solar eclipse on 12 August 2026<\/strong>, the restrictions may be temporarily modified.<\/p>\n

Can you drive to Formentor in 2026?<\/h2>\n

It depends on the section, the time of day and available capacity.<\/p>\n

During the regulated period, between 10:00 and 22:00, access by private car is restricted on the Ma-2210. The regulation distinguishes between two main sections:<\/p>\n

Section 1: from Port de Pollen\u00e7a to Formentor beach<\/h3>\n

The first section affects access from the Port de Pollen\u00e7a area to Formentor beach. In this case, the DGT allows private vehicles to reach the car park located at kilometre point 8, provided there are spaces available.<\/p>\n

Access will depend on the road signage. If the traffic light is green, the barrier is raised and the information panels indicate available capacity, vehicles may enter without prior authorisation until the car park is full.<\/p>\n

When the car park is full, access will be closed to unauthorised vehicles. In that case, drivers must stop in the service lane and wait until a space becomes available. Entering when the traffic light is red, the barrier is down or the signage indicates no entry may result in a fine.<\/p>\n

Section 2: from Formentor beach to the lighthouse<\/h3>\n

The second section, between Formentor beach and the lighthouse, is more restrictive. During the regulated hours, access to Formentor lighthouse is only permitted for authorised vehicles, the shuttle bus, bicycles, essential services and other vehicles included in the established exceptions.<\/p>\n

The control barrier is located at kilometre point 8.700 of the Ma-2210. The system automatically recognises authorised number plates and, if the plate cannot be read, authorised users can use a previously issued QR code.<\/p>\n
