The Biennal B 2026<\/strong> returns to Mallorca<\/strong> with a second edition<\/strong> that strengthens its presence in Palma<\/strong> and expands its reach with the incorporation of Marratx\u00ed<\/strong>. Promoted by the Consell de Mallorca<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and Es Baluard Museu d\u2019Art Contemporani de Palma<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, in collaboration with the Palma City Council<\/strong> and the Marratx\u00ed Town Council<\/em>, the initiative will unfold across venues such as the Casal Solleric<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, La Miseric\u00f2rdia<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and the museum itself, joined this year by Sa Refinadora<\/span><\/span><\/strong> in Marratx\u00ed<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Biennal B 2026 is conceived as a territory-wide cultural project<\/strong> that combines exhibitions and creative processes around the dialogue between contemporary art, place and traditional knowledge<\/strong>, with special attention to materials, crafts and practices linked to the local context<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From the underwater world to textile creation<\/h2>\n

One of the first milestones will take place on 30 April<\/strong> at the Casal Solleric<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, with the opening of Hab\u00eda en el fondo del mar<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (There Was at the Bottom of the Sea)<\/em>, the exhibition by Nuria Mora<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, which can be visited until 6 September<\/strong>. The artist transforms the space into an underwater setting through a series of interventions that engage with the architecture, the city and its maritime surroundings. Through these site-specific<\/em> installations, the project evokes the seabed as a place of memory, where shipwrecks function as a metaphor for time and history.<\/p>\n

Another of the main axes will be the group exhibition A media lumbre <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(In Half-Light)<\/em>, which can be visited from 23 July to 18 October<\/strong>. Co-produced with the IVAM<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and curated by Blanca de la Torre<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, in Mallorca it will unfold across Es Baluard, Casal Solleric and Sa Refinadora<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, where an individual proposal by Teresa Matas<\/span><\/span><\/strong> will also be integrated. The project brings together works that engage with materials such as ceramics, clay, wool and natural fibres, in connection with forms of knowledge linked to the territory.<\/p>\n

The programme will continue in September at La Miseric\u00f2rdia<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, where the chapel will host the exhibition by ceramist Joan Pere Catal\u00e0 Roig<\/span><\/span><\/strong>. In the same venue, the courtyard will host from 10 to 30 September<\/strong> Llengua de foc <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(Tongue of Fire)<\/em>, a textile installation by Valeria Maculan<\/span><\/span><\/strong> in collaboration with T\u00e8xtils Bujosa<\/strong>, conceived as a scenic device that integrates body, sound and matter through a choral action linked to Mallorcan tradition.<\/p>\n

The director of Es Baluard, David Barro<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, underlines the scope of the project and points out that Biennal B “not only expands the exhibition spaces, but also the contexts of production and thought, connecting contemporary practices with traditional knowledge and local communities. In this sense, it reinforces Es Baluard Museu\u2019s commitment to a critical, decentralised contemporary culture that is deeply linked to the social and cultural reality of Mallorca and the Balearic archipelago as a whole”.<\/p>\n

Along the same lines, the vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca<\/span><\/span> and councillor for Culture, Ant\u00f2nia Roca<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, stresses that “Biennal B is a strategic commitment by the Consell de Mallorca to promote contemporary culture from a territorial perspective, creating opportunities for artists and bringing contemporary art closer to the public”.<\/p>\n
