The Ajuntament de Palma<\/strong> and the Govern de les Illes Balears<\/strong> have agreed to extend until 31 May<\/strong> the transition period from the Tarjeta Ciudadana (Municipal Citizen Card) <\/strong>to the new Tarjeta \u00danica (Single Transport Card)<\/strong>, with the aim of making it easier for people to adapt<\/strong> to Mallorca\u2019s integrated public transport system.<\/p>\n

\"Tarjeta<\/p>\n

During this additional period, users will still be able to use the Tarjeta Ciudadana on EMT Palma buses<\/strong>. Once it ends, it will no longer be valid as a transport pass, so it will be necessary to have either the Tarjeta \u00danica or the Tarjeta Intermodal<\/strong> in order to travel.<\/p>\n

The new Tarjeta \u00danica allows travel across Mallorca\u2019s entire public transport network using a single card, including train, metro, TIB intercity buses and Palma\u2019s urban buses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At present, around 80%<\/strong> of Tarjeta Ciudadana users<\/strong> have already completed the migration<\/strong> to the new system. So far, around 118,000 Tarjeta \u00danica cards<\/strong> have been issued, more than 89,000 of them first-time issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

How to apply for the Tarjeta \u00danica<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Users who do not yet have the Tarjeta \u00danica must apply for it free of charge<\/strong> by appointment<\/strong> at the designated service points or through the online channels.<\/p>\n

Service points include EMT Palma offices, the Citizen Attention Office (OAC) in Cort, PalmaActiva offices, the Intermodal Station \u2014 which has increased its capacity \u2014, TIB offices in Alc\u00fadia, Inca and Manacor, and the town halls of Calvi\u00e0, Llucmajor and Marratx\u00ed.<\/p>\n

People over the age of 65 can complete the process without an appointment.<\/p>\n

Balance and other services<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once the transition period ends, the balance stored on the Tarjeta Ciudadana will be transferred automatically<\/strong> to the Tarjeta \u00danica or Tarjeta Intermodal in most cases. An additional step will only be required in specific situations, such as changes to the cardholder\u2019s details.<\/p>\n

The Tarjeta Ciudadana will remain valid for other municipal services, such as the issuance of the residence certificate for travel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Free public transport in 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Holders of the Tarjeta \u00danica or Tarjeta Intermodal will continue to travel free of charge throughout 2026. In addition, bank card payment is now available across the entire transport network, with discounts of 40% for the first passenger and up to 60% for accompanying passengers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
