<strong>Estaci\u00f3 Intermodal<\/strong> with <strong>Son Espases<\/strong> hospital in <strong>just 10 minutes<\/strong>, as part of a project that will expand the city\u2019s urban rail network and improve mobility in several neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n<p>The new infrastructure, which is currently at the informative study stage, envisages an initial investment of <strong>230 million euros<\/strong> \u2014 which could reach <strong>300 million euros<\/strong> with the purchase of trains \u2014 and the start of works in <strong>2029<\/strong>, with an <strong>estimated duration of more than three works: 2029<\/li>\n<li>Estimated demand: 3 million passengers per year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Route and stations of the new M2 metro line in Palma<\/h2>\n<p>The new Palma\u2013Son Espases metro line will depart from the <strong>Estaci\u00f3 Intermodal<\/strong> and will initially use the existing <strong>Jacint Verdaguer<\/strong> and <strong>Son Costa<\/strong> stations.<\/p>\n<p>From that point, the route will continue with four new stations linking strategic areas of the city:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Son Hugo \/ Son Pardo<\/strong>, next to sports and administrative facilities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Son Rossinyol \/ Son Pacs<\/strong>, with a connection to the industrial estate.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Son Espases<\/strong>, with direct access to the hospital.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secar de la Real \/ Son Serra Perera<\/strong>, which will serve residential and business areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The full journey to El Secar de la Real and Son Serra Perera will take approximately <strong>11 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>A 6-kilometre underground metro line<\/h2>\n<p>The project includes a metro line of around <strong>6 kilometres in length<\/strong>, of which <strong>4 kilometres will be newly built<\/strong>, entirely underground.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to opt for an underground route is intended to improve the capacity, speed and reliability of the service, as well as avoid interference at surface level and free up urban space.<\/p>\n<h2>When the new Palma\u2013Son Espases metro line will be built<\/h2>\n<p>The project is currently at the <strong>informative study<\/strong> stage, which is expected to receive initial approval shortly before being opened to public consultation.<\/p>\n<p>The projected timetable places the start of works in <strong>2029<\/strong>, once the construction plans and tendering processes have been completed, with an estimated duration of more than three years until completion, around <strong>2033<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>How many users the new metro line will have<\/h2>\n<p>The forecast is that the new Palma\u2013Son Espases metro line will record around <strong>3 million passengers per year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Given that the combined rail and metro network in Mallorca exceeded <strong>11.6 million users in 2025<\/strong>, this extension could represent an increase of approximately <strong>26%<\/strong> in the use of the rail system and double the current number of users of Palma\u2019s metro.<\/p>\n<h2>A project to improve mobility in Palma<\/h2>\n<p>The new metro line will improve the connection between central Palma and residential, industrial and healthcare areas, making access easier to facilities such as Son Espases Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The expected increase in passenger numbers will help encourage the use of public transport, reduce dependence on private vehicles and ease traffic on roads such as the V\u00eda de Cintura.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the project has been designed with a long-term vision, as it will allow for possible future extensions of the rail network to other parts of the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The
