The production of cow\u2019s milk in Mallorca<\/strong> recorded a 20.5% drop<\/strong> in 2025<\/strong>, falling from 9.5 million litres in 2024<\/strong> to 7,579,329 litres<\/strong>, according to the figures presented by the Government at the Dairy Sector Board meeting held in Menorca.<\/p>\n

Across the Balearic Islands<\/strong>, cow\u2019s milk production stood at 54,989,342 litres<\/strong>, which represents a 3.7% decrease compared with the previous year<\/strong>, with 2.1 million fewer litres. The trend, however, has not been the same across the islands. Menorca<\/strong>, the archipelago\u2019s main producing territory, kept its production virtually stable at 47,222,781 litres<\/strong>, just 0.3% less<\/strong> than in 2024.<\/p>\n

Economic value of the dairy sector in the Balearic Islands<\/h2>\n

According to the report prepared using data from the INFOLAC<\/strong> system, the gross value of milk sold to first buyers<\/strong> in the Balearic Islands reached 15,871,349.58 euros<\/strong> in 2025.<\/p>\n

Taking into account the weight of direct sales<\/strong> \u2014 especially significant in Menorca \u2014 and the value of milk processed for direct sale<\/strong>, the total gross value of unprocessed milk production<\/strong> is estimated at at least 25,735,012.11 euros<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Price of cow\u2019s milk in Mallorca and Menorca<\/h2>\n

The average price paid to producers<\/strong> in the Balearic Islands in 2025 was 0.468 euros per litre<\/strong>, still below the national average (0.511 \u20ac\/l)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The average price of cow\u2019s milk in Mallorca reached 0.517 \u20ac\/l<\/strong>, while in Menorca<\/strong> it stood at 0.456 \u20ac\/l<\/strong>. According to the Government, the Balearic Islands continue to record prices below the national average due to a value chain with a limited number of first buyers<\/strong>, which reduces farmers\u2019 bargaining power.<\/p>\n

In addition, the evolution of the European market is a concern: in January, the average milk price in Europe stood at 0.421 \u20ac\/l<\/strong>, 17% lower<\/strong> than a year earlier.<\/p>\n

As for farms and livestock numbers, there are currently 124 professional farms<\/strong> declaring milk deliveries or direct sales across the archipelago: 109 in Menorca, 13 in Mallorca and 2 in Ibiza<\/strong>, three fewer than the previous year.<\/p>\n

The number of animals eligible for coupled aid stands at 7,846 cows over 24 months old<\/strong>, 42 more than in 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Closure of Agama<\/h2>\n

The meeting also addressed the specific situation of the sector in Mallorca following the closure of Agama<\/strong>, which has created a difficult context for farms on the island.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that it will soon convene a specific dairy sector board in Mallorca<\/strong> to analyse possible support measures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
