The Balearic Government<\/strong> firmly rejects the<\/strong> mass regularisation<\/strong> of immigrants promoted by the Spanish Government<\/strong> through a royal decree<\/strong>. The Balearic Executive considers it to be an \u201cimprovised measure, lacking planning and coordination<\/strong>\u201d that will worsen migratory pressure<\/strong>, the collapse of public services<\/strong> and the pull effect<\/strong> in the archipelago.<\/p>\n

The Balearic Government warns that the islands are experiencing the worst migration crisis in their history<\/strong>, with more than 20,000 arrivals of people in an irregular situation over the past five years<\/strong>, an unprecedented figure<\/strong> for an island territory with limited resources and already overstretched services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For all these reasons, the regional Executive calls on the State to show responsibility, planning and institutional respect, and to implement a serious migration plan coordinated with the autonomous communities<\/strong>, strengthening legal pathways, combating trafficking networks and taking into account the real reception capacity of each territory.<\/p>\n

Criticism of the lack of guarantees and planning in the mass regularisation<\/h3>\n

One of the aspects that most concerns the Balearic Government is the lowering of requirements<\/strong> included in the State proposal, which would allow regularisation even in the absence of criminal record certificates<\/strong> from the country of origin, replacing them with a simple sworn declaration<\/strong> by the applicant.<\/p>\n

According to the regional Executive, this formula removes basic safeguards<\/strong>, weakens legal certainty<\/strong> and demonstrates an alarming lack of rigour<\/strong> in a measure with major social impact. \u201cLegislation cannot be passed ignoring the reality of the territories,\u201d regional sources state.<\/p>\n

Immigration services at breaking point in the Balearic Islands<\/h3>\n

The Balearic Government has also highlighted the critical situation of Immigration Offices<\/strong>, which are already overwhelmed<\/strong> and facing significant delays<\/strong> in processing applications. This situation, they argue, particularly harms<\/strong> those attempting to regularise their status through legal channels<\/strong>, with an employment contract and a willingness to integrate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The regional Executive believes this creates a profound injustice: \u201cthose who comply with the rules wait for months<\/strong>, while those who have arrived irregularly benefit from extraordinary decisions with no clear filters\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIntegration is not decreed, it is built\u201d<\/h3>\n

The Director General for Immigration and Development Cooperation, Manuel Pav\u00f3n<\/strong>, has been particularly critical of the State initiative. \u201cWhile in the Balearic Islands we are managing the emergency on the ground, the Spanish Government should assume its responsibilities and provide real solutions, not improvised policies<\/strong> that only increase the sense of insecurity,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Pav\u00f3n stressed that \u201cintegration is not decreed; it is built through real opportunities. Without housing, employment and sufficient resources, a mass regularisation will only generate more precariousness and greater social tension. With this measure, it seems that arriving illegally in the Balearic Islands comes with a reward,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Government\u2019s royal decree will allow the administrative regularisation of between 500,000 and 800,000 migrants<\/strong> in an irregular situation in Spain. The measure has been agreed with Podemos.<\/p>\n
