A new fire in Palma<\/strong> mobilised the emergency services<\/strong> this morning after a cardboard recycling container<\/strong> was completely destroyed by flames<\/strong> in Carrer Camilo Jos\u00e9 Cela<\/strong>. The incident occurred at around 11:15 am<\/strong> and generated a dense column of black smoke<\/strong> and a strong smell of burnt plastic<\/strong>, causing alarm among residents and passers-by in the area. The possibility that the fire was deliberately started<\/strong> is being considered.<\/p>\n

A crew from the Bombers de Palma<\/span><\/span><\/strong> attended the scene, along with two patrols from the Palma Local Police<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, who closed the street to traffic<\/strong> to facilitate the emergency response and ensure public safety. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing the flames from spreading to other containers or nearby street furniture.<\/p>\n

According to eyewitnesses, a passer-by removed two other containers<\/strong> that were next to the burning one, an action carried out at personal risk<\/strong> and which helped to prevent the fire from spreading further<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The affected container was completely destroyed<\/strong> within minutes, a circumstance that strengthens the theory of an arson attack<\/strong>. In this regard, the Local Police indicate that the fire may have been started using petrol<\/strong>, given the speed<\/strong> at which the flames spread.<\/p>\n

Wave of container fires in Palma in recent days<\/h2>\n

In recent weeks, several container fires have been reported in Palma, repeatedly requiring the intervention of emergency services in different parts of the city.<\/p>\n

One of these incidents occurred in the early hours of 24 December<\/strong>, when a fire in the La Vileta<\/strong> neighbourhood destroyed several containers and caused damage to parked vehicles.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, on 14 January<\/strong>, another container fire mobilised emergency teams in the Llevant industrial estate<\/strong>, where swift police action allowed several vehicles to be moved before they were affected by the flames.<\/p>\n

The most recent case, which occurred on 25 January<\/strong>, took place overnight in the Costa de ses Germanetes and Ausi\u00e0s March<\/strong> area, where several container fires were reported, one of them involving a paper and cardboard container<\/strong>, requiring a coordinated operation to bring the situation under control.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
