The Son Castell\u00f3 ITV station will close for an approximate period of three months due to urgent works. The works at the Palma I Vehicle Technical Inspection station will begin on 18 December<\/strong>, one day earlier than initially planned.<\/p>\n

The closure is due to the need to completely replace the roof<\/strong>, which has leaks and water ingress. In addition, the current roof is built with cement fibre containing traces of asbestos<\/strong>, a material that poses a safety risk, especially during maintenance work. For this reason, the Consell de Mallorca has decided to remove it and replace it with a new metal sheet roof<\/strong>, which is safer and more suitable.<\/p>\n

The works, promoted by the Department of Finance and Public Service<\/strong>, will have an approximate cost of \u20ac320,000<\/strong>. The removal of the old roof will be carried out under strict safety measures and, to avoid any contact with asbestos residues, there will be no staff at the centre until 7 January<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Improving the quality of the Son Castell\u00f3 ITV service<\/h3>\n

The Consell highlights that this action will make it possible to renew the infrastructure and improve safety and the quality of the service<\/strong> provided to the public. In this regard, it recalls that during the current legislative term it has been possible to significantly reduce waiting times for ITV appointments, from waiting lists of five or six months to timeframes of between fifteen days and a month and a half.<\/p>\n

Although inspection activity will be suspended for most of the works period, efforts are under way so that by mid-January two of the station\u2019s four mechanical inspection lanes can be brought back into service<\/strong>, allowing inspections to resume partially without having to wait for the full completion of the works.<\/p>\n

As regards appointments affected by the closure, around 60 inspections have been relocated to other stations on the island<\/strong>, and Son Castell\u00f3 ITV technicians will be reassigned to reinforce staff at the other centres, ensuring that no vehicle is left uninspected. The Palma I ITV offices will remain open from 7 January<\/strong> to provide information and public assistance during the course of the works.<\/p>\n

The ITV service will also be strengthened at the beginning of 2026<\/strong>, with the opening of the new Campos<\/strong> station, which will help to improve capacity and customer service in Mallorca.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
