Mallorca is a place of passage, but also of arrival. Gente Global<\/strong> brings together stories of people who were born far from the island and who, for very different reasons, ended up making Mallorca their home. At Mallorca Global Mag<\/strong><\/em>, we set out to find those life stories marked by change, adaptation, and putting down roots, which explain how cultural diversity is now part of everyday life on the island.<\/p>\n

Athanasia Kadoglou | Greece<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Living in Mallorca<\/strong>: 23 years\u00b7 Job<\/strong>: Private teacher<\/p>\n

Athanasia arrived in Mallorca 23 years ago from Greece, following the man who is now her husband. The island reminded her of many aspects of her homeland, but she also discovered something different and unique that ended up captivating her. Over time, it became her refuge, the place where her children were born and which she now calls home without hesitation.<\/p>\n

Ioana Mateescu | Romania<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Living in Mallorca<\/strong>: 24 years \u00b7 Job<\/strong>: Digital marketing<\/p>\n

She came to Mallorca when she was very young, so she grew up with the island as her reference point and Romania as a place she returns to reconnect with her family. She studied marketing in Alicante and, after completing her studies, decided to return to Mallorca to pursue her career,
\nattracted by the quality of life and a sense of familiarity that she never completely lost.<\/p>\n

Chloe Murray | Canad\u00e1<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Living in Mallorca<\/strong>: 1 year \u00b7 Job<\/strong>: Au pair<\/p>\n

Chloe discovered Mallorca as a child when she came on holiday with her parents. Used to the cold weather in her home country, she was so impressed by the island’s warm climate that she never forgot that first visit. Years later, she decided to return to Santany\u00ed on her own, working as an au pair, which was an easy way to settle in and experience the island from the inside.<\/p>\n

Jasper Gibson | Alemania<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Living in Mallorca<\/strong>: 17 years \u00b7 Occupation<\/strong>: Student and soccer player<\/p>\n

Jasper is twenty years old and combines his studies with football. His parents, who are German, moved to Mallorca when he was just three years old because of his father’s job. Since then, he has grown up between school, the football pitch and the streets of Pollen\u00e7a. Feeling like a local is not something he decided: it just happened.<\/p>\n

Thijs de Vries | Pa\u00edses Bajos<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Living in Mallorca<\/strong>: 5 years \u00b7 Job<\/strong>: Computer programmer<\/p>\n

He landed in Mallorca from the Netherlands and has not found any reason to leave. He works remotely as a programmer, which allows him to enjoy the island daily, without being tied to rigid schedules or distant offices. He states that he has found a routine that works for him here: good weather, calm when he needs it, and the feeling that he can end each day near the sea.<\/p>\n

Shunda Zhu (Jony) | China<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Living in Mallorca<\/strong>: 20 years \u00b7 Job<\/strong>: Businessman<\/p>\n

Shunda Zhu landed in Mallorca when she was 16. Now, over two decades later, he’s become a social media star, running the famous Can Jony<\/em> bazaar in Sa Pobla. She admits that sometimes he feels more like a local than a Chinese person and says he’s really into Mallorcan culture.<\/p>\n
