The public transport in the Balearic Islands<\/strong> will once again be free in 2026<\/strong> following the approval in the Spanish Congress of Deputies<\/strong> of an amendment to the Sustainable Mobility Law<\/strong>. The measure, initially introduced in the Senate, has been passed with the support of various groups, including the PP and PSOE, and guarantees the continuation of a 100% discount<\/strong> on season tickets and multi-journey passes for train, bus and metro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The PP claims credit for the initiative<\/h2>\n

The PP states that it has been decisive in securing the approval of the proposal. Its deputy spokesperson, Jos\u00e9 Vicente Mar\u00ed, says that \u201cthe Congress has delivered a harsh rebuke to S\u00e1nchez\u2019s transport policies\u201d and that the Government has been forced to include \u201cnumerous amendments proposed by the PP for the benefit of citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also criticises the Socialists\u2019 change of position: \u201cLast week they voted against it and today\u2026 they had no choice but to vote in favour\u201d.<\/p>\n

The PP regrets that its amendments on railway investment in Mallorca and on a national maritime decarbonisation plan were rejected.<\/p>\n

The PSOE argues that free public transport was already a commitment of the State<\/h3>\n

The PSIB-PSOE stresses that free public transport has been in place since 2023 thanks to the central Government. MP Milena Herrera states that \u201cwe renew the State’s commitment to the Balearic Islands, initiated in 2023\u201d and describes the measure as a \u201cnew citizens\u2019 right\u201d.<\/p>\n

Herrera criticises that \u201cthe PP has never agreed\u201d with this policy and recalls that the State is funding a regional responsibility: \u201cThe Government of Spain is making an investment that should correspond to the regional government\u201d.<\/p>\n

She also calls on the Balearic Government to strengthen the service: \u201cThe PP must take public transport more seriously\u201d.<\/p>\n
