The Museu del Ferrocarril de Mallorca (Mallorca Railway Museum)<\/strong> opens its doors to the public today in Son Carri\u00f3, in the municipality of Sant Lloren\u00e7 des Cardassar. The space, promoted by Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM)<\/strong> and the Fundaci\u00f3 Ferrocaib<\/strong>, offers an immersive experience that combines history, technology and emotion to relive the island\u2019s railway past. Opening hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.<\/strong>, from Wednesday to Sunday<\/strong>, during the winter season. Admission will be free throughout the first week.<\/p>\n

Located in the former engine sheds of the Son Carri\u00f3 station, the museum pays tribute to the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the train in Mallorca<\/strong>, with an innovative proposal where reality and virtuality intertwine through large-format projections, holograms, digital mapping and sensory effects such as locomotive smoke. Its opening coincides with the commemoration of the island\u2019s first railway line, between Palma and Inca, inaugurated in 1875.<\/p>\n

To celebrate its opening, next Saturday 15 November<\/strong> the museum will host a popular festival with children\u2019s activities<\/strong> for all audiences.<\/p>\n

Immersive experience<\/h3>\n

The museum tour begins in a late-19th-century station, where visitors enter an immersive projection populated by period characters recreated in holographic format. Afterwards, a symbolic journey led by engineer Eusebi Estada<\/strong> \u2014author of the original design for Mallorca\u2019s railway network\u2014 invites visitors to discover the Mallorca of the past aboard a restored historical carriage. The visit ends in an interactive space dedicated to the professions linked to the world of railways.<\/p>\n

The President of the Balearic Government, Margalida Prohens<\/strong>, highlighted that the space \u201ccombines history and technology, tradition and innovation\u201d and is \u201cdesigned to move and to teach\u201d.<\/p>\n

A project with social and touristic value<\/h3>\n

The Mallorca Railway Museum<\/strong> has been funded by European Next Generation EU<\/strong> funds, through a grant of almost \u20ac3.7 million awarded to the Sant Lloren\u00e7 Town Council as part of the Pla de Recuperaci\u00f3, Transformaci\u00f3 i Resili\u00e8ncia<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In addition to preserving the railway heritage, the museum is also a model of social inclusion<\/strong>. It is managed by 3 Salut Mental<\/strong>, made up of the entities Estel de Llevant, Fundaci\u00f3 Es Garrover and Asociaci\u00f3n Girasol, which promote the employment of people with mental health conditions.<\/p>\n

According to the Government, this model \u201ccombines efficiency, social sensitivity and public service\u201d, turning the space into a meeting point for culture, memory and solidarity.<\/p>\n
