Unemployment<\/strong> reached a historic low<\/strong> last October<\/strong> in the Balearic Islands, according to the regional government<\/strong>. The community recorded 27,685 unemployed people<\/strong>, a 6.1% decrease<\/strong> compared with the previous year<\/strong> (\u22121,804 people). The administrative unemployment rate<\/strong> stood at 4.3%<\/strong>, 0.4 points lower<\/strong> than that registered in October 2024.<\/p>\n

The fall in unemployment was widespread across all the islands<\/strong>, although the case of Formentera<\/strong> stood out with a \u221222.8%<\/strong> drop. Mallorca<\/strong> followed with \u22126.5%<\/strong>, Menorca<\/strong> with \u22124.7%<\/strong> and Ibiza<\/strong> with \u22122.2%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

By sector<\/strong>, unemployment fell mainly in construction (\u221213.2%)<\/strong> and agriculture (\u221212.4%)<\/strong>, while it increased in hospitality (+31.5%)<\/strong> and retail (+4.2%)<\/strong> due to the end of the tourist season. In addition, long-term unemployment<\/strong> (more than 12 months registered) decreased by 5.4%<\/strong> compared with the previous year.<\/p>\n

Compared with September<\/strong>, unemployment rose by 6.3% (+1,631 people)<\/strong>, a typical increase after the summer. Even so, the Balearic Islands maintain the lowest unemployment rate in Spain<\/strong> and continue to show a solid and dynamic labour market<\/strong>, according to government sources.<\/p>\n

Baleares surpasses 618,000 Social Security affiliates<\/h2>\n

In October 2025, the Balearic Islands reached 618,471 Social Security contributors<\/strong>. The year-on-year growth was +2.5% (+15,073 contributors)<\/strong>, slightly above the national average (+2.4%).<\/p>\n

On a monthly basis, affiliation fell by 5.4% (\u221234,936 people)<\/strong> due to the end of the tourist season, while at national level it increased by +0.7%.<\/p>\n
