The economy of<\/strong> the Balearic Islands<\/strong> remains strong<\/strong> and continues to stand out<\/strong> above the European average. According to the Economic Situation Analysis of the Balearic Islands<\/em><\/strong>, the archipelago\u2019s GDP<\/strong> grew by<\/strong> 3.2%<\/strong> in the second quarter of 2025<\/strong> \u2014 double<\/strong> the average for the European Union<\/strong> (1.6%<\/strong>) and above the figure for Spain<\/strong> (2.8%<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

This marks the sixth consecutive quarter<\/strong> in which the Balearic Islands have recorded growth above 3%. All the islands show significant progress: Mallorca leads with 3.2%<\/strong>, followed by Eivissa and Formentera (3.0%)<\/strong>, while Menorca<\/strong> grew by 2.1%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The report was presented in Eivissa by the First Vice-President of the Government, Antoni Costa<\/strong>, and the Director General of Economy and Statistics, Catalina Barcel\u00f3<\/strong>. Costa emphasised that \u201call sectors are growing strongly\u201d, although with slight moderation compared to last year.<\/p>\n

The services sector<\/strong> continues to be the driving force of the economy, with growth of 3.3%<\/strong>, followed by construction (2.3%)<\/strong>, industry (2.0%)<\/strong> and the primary sector (0.7%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Employment also reflects this positive trend. In September, there were 639,122 registered workers<\/strong>, 2.6%<\/strong> more than in 2024. Most of the new jobs were created in the services sector (88%)<\/strong>, with 14,202 more affiliates<\/strong>, followed by construction (+1,460)<\/strong> and industry (+544)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Balearic Islands break all tourism records<\/h2>\n

In the tourism sector, the report highlights that the Balearic Islands once again surpassed all records<\/strong>. Tourist expenditure<\/strong> up to August reached \u20ac17.36 billion (+5.6%)<\/strong>, with an average daily spend of \u20ac202 (+5.4%)<\/strong> and an average spend per person of \u20ac1,233 (+3.1%)<\/strong>. Costa stressed that \u201cthe islands are growing twice as much in value as in volume\u201d and that \u201cthis is the path to follow\u201d.<\/p>\n

The number of tourists reached 14.1 million (+2.4%)<\/strong> up to August. Menorca (5.5%)<\/strong> and Mallorca (2.6%)<\/strong> led the increase, while Eivissa and Formentera<\/strong> grew by just 0.1%<\/strong>. However, the Piti\u00fcses<\/strong> stood out for the increase in average expenditure per person (+4.0%)<\/strong> and daily expenditure (+13.2%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Overnight stays<\/strong> amounted to 86.1 million<\/strong>, with a slight decline of 1.4%<\/strong> during the peak season months, offset by an increase of 3.3%<\/strong> between January and May. The average length of stay<\/strong> fell from 6.2 to 6.1 days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Despite the positive results, the report also warns about inflation<\/strong>, one of the highest in the country. In September, the Balearic Islands recorded 3.3%<\/strong>, compared with the 3.0%<\/strong> national average. Core inflation<\/strong> stood at 2.8%<\/strong>, also higher than Spain\u2019s 2.4%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
