The Government of the Balearic Islands<\/strong> has announced the extension of Palma’s metro to the University Hospital Son Espases<\/strong>. President Margalida Prohens<\/strong> stated that the Government and Palma City Council<\/strong> are already working on the preliminary technical studies<\/strong> to start, in the coming months, the processing of the project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During her speech on the second day of the general policy debate<\/strong>, held today, Prohens explained that the metro line extension will allow the connection of Pla\u00e7a Espanya and the intermodal station with the island’s reference hospital<\/strong>, improving mobility and accessibility<\/strong> for citizens, especially patients and hospital staff.<\/p>\n

\"Palma<\/p>\n

The Government<\/strong> is already preparing a new informative study<\/strong> for the metro extension to the University Hospital Son Espases and other strategic points in Palma, with approval expected in 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Prohens recalled that this is a project announced years ago but never carried out<\/strong>, and assured that the Government will not give up on other projects<\/strong> such as the Llevant train<\/strong> and the new railway agreement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A record expenditure ceiling for 2026<\/h2>\n

In economic terms, Prohens announced that the Government has practically finalised the new expenditure ceiling<\/strong>, which will soon be approved with an increase of 360 million euros<\/strong>, reaching 6.924 billion euros of non-financial expenditure ceiling for 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to the president, “the priority is clear: more public resources to continue improving healthcare, education, public transport, and housing, and to keep investing in the quality of public services for the people here,” she stated.<\/p>\n

Commitments fulfilled and new investments<\/h3>\n

During her speech, the president reviewed the main commitments fulfilled<\/strong> by the Government over the past year. Among them, she highlighted the equalisation of the self-employed<\/strong> with large and single-parent families in reconciliation deductions, the creation of new health centres<\/strong> in Ciutadella and Formentera, the educational reform<\/strong>, and the approval of the Strategic Residential Projects Law<\/strong> to promote affordable housing.<\/p>\n

She also highlighted improvements in public transport<\/strong>, with an additional investment of 150 million euros for the TIB<\/strong>, and recalled that projects such as the Llucmajor train<\/strong>, the Balearic Public Safety School<\/strong>, the road agreements<\/strong> with the island councils, and the new urgent measures decree<\/strong> to tackle tourist congestion and illegal accommodation supply remain ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
