{"id":149527,"date":"2025-10-03T11:12:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T09:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/paro-interanual-desciende-septiembre-balears\/"},"modified":"2025-10-03T11:32:41","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T09:32:41","slug":"paro-interanual-desciende-septiembre-balears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/en\/paro-interanual-desciende-septiembre-balears\/","title":{"rendered":"Year-on-year unemployment falls by 6.8% in September in the Balearic Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>labour market of the Balearic Islands<\/strong> closed <strong>September<\/strong> with a drop in unemployment of <strong data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"546\">6.8%<\/strong> compared to <strong data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"546\">the same month last year<\/strong>, which equals <strong data-start=\"566\" data-end=\"603\">1,908 fewer unemployed people<\/strong> and brings the total to <strong data-start=\"624\" data-end=\"642\">26,054 unemployed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-107872 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cafeteria-paro.webp\" alt=\"Unemployment in Balearic Islands\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cafeteria-paro-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cafeteria-paro.webp 780w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite this annual decline, compared to <strong>August<\/strong> there was a slight monthly increase of <strong data-start=\"670\" data-end=\"694\">86 people (+0.3%)<\/strong>, related to the end of part of the tourist season, according to the Minister of Labour, Public Function and Social Dialogue, <strong>Catalina Cabrer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong data-start=\"770\" data-end=\"801\">administrative unemployment rate<\/strong> stands at <strong data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"826\">3.8%<\/strong>, an indicator that confirms an environment of near <strong data-start=\"870\" data-end=\"889\">full employment<\/strong> in the autonomous community.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Balearic Islands are recording a <strong>historically low number of unemployed people<\/strong>, with a significant reduction over the past year. We have observed that September is consolidating as a <strong>high season<\/strong> month, just like July and August,&#8221; Cabrer highlighted.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 data-start=\"1644\" data-end=\"1677\">Unemployment evolution by island<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1770\">The distribution of unemployment in September shows different trends across each island:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1771\" data-end=\"2059\">\n<li data-start=\"1771\" data-end=\"1843\">\n<p data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"1843\"><strong data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"1785\">Mallorca<\/strong>: 21,936 unemployed (<strong data-start=\"1803\" data-end=\"1824\">-7.5% year-on-year<\/strong>, -0.5% monthly)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"1914\">\n<p data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"1914\"><strong data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"1857\">Menorca<\/strong>: 1,672 unemployed (<strong data-start=\"1874\" data-end=\"1895\">-4.6% year-on-year<\/strong>, +5.2% monthly)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1915\" data-end=\"1985\">\n<p data-start=\"1917\" data-end=\"1985\"><strong data-start=\"1917\" data-end=\"1928\">Ibiza<\/strong>: 2,343 unemployed (<strong data-start=\"1945\" data-end=\"1966\">+0.1% year-on-year<\/strong>, +3.6% monthly)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1986\" data-end=\"2059\">\n<p data-start=\"1988\" data-end=\"2059\"><strong data-start=\"1988\" data-end=\"2002\">Formentera<\/strong>: 103 unemployed (<strong data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2039\">-29.5% year-on-year<\/strong>, +49.3% monthly)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Increase in Social Security affiliation<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1245\">Social Security affiliation also shows a <strong>positive trend<\/strong>. In September, the Balearic Islands reached <strong data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1185\">653,407 affiliates<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1190\" data-end=\"1219\">2.4% more than last year<\/strong> (+15,493 workers).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1247\" data-end=\"1303\">By economic sector, the data is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1304\" data-end=\"1496\">\n<li data-start=\"1304\" data-end=\"1329\">\n<p data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1329\">Industry: <strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1327\">+1.8%<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1358\">\n<p data-start=\"1332\" data-end=\"1358\">Construction: <strong data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1356\">+2.5%<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1359\" data-end=\"1468\">\n<p data-start=\"1361\" data-end=\"1468\">Services: <strong data-start=\"1372\" data-end=\"1382\">+2.7%<\/strong> (with increases in commerce +1.0%, hospitality +1.9%, and other services +3.8%)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1496\">\n<p data-start=\"1471\" data-end=\"1496\">Agriculture: <strong data-start=\"1484\" data-end=\"1494\">-0.6%<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Furthermore, the number of <strong>self-employed workers<\/strong> (+2.1%) and <strong>active companies<\/strong> (+0.8%) rose, which consolidates the positive evolution of the productive fabric, Cabrer highlighted.<\/p>\n<h2>Permanent contracts above the national average<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2136\" data-end=\"2314\">The number of contracts registered in September amounted to <strong data-start=\"2196\" data-end=\"2206\">32,603<\/strong>, representing an increase of <strong data-start=\"2237\" data-end=\"2265\">24.4% compared to August<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2272\" data-end=\"2311\">3.4% compared to September 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2316\" data-end=\"2426\">Of these, <strong data-start=\"2326\" data-end=\"2353\">62% were permanent<\/strong>, a percentage well above the national average of 43.3%.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2428\" data-end=\"2489\">By island, the contract figures were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2490\" data-end=\"2771\">\n<li data-start=\"2490\" data-end=\"2561\">\n<p data-start=\"2492\" data-end=\"2561\"><strong data-start=\"2492\" data-end=\"2504\">Mallorca<\/strong>: 26,698 contracts (+32.1% monthly, +4.2% year-on-year)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2562\" data-end=\"2631\">\n<p data-start=\"2564\" data-end=\"2631\"><strong data-start=\"2564\" data-end=\"2575\">Menorca<\/strong>: 1,935 contracts (-3.1% monthly, +16.5% year-on-year)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2632\" data-end=\"2700\">\n<p data-start=\"2634\" data-end=\"2700\"><strong data-start=\"2634\" data-end=\"2645\">Ibiza<\/strong>: 3,757 contracts (+1.5% monthly, -7.3% year-on-year)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2701\" data-end=\"2771\">\n<p data-start=\"2703\" data-end=\"2771\"><strong data-start=\"2703\" data-end=\"2717\">Formentera<\/strong>: 213 contracts (-26.3% monthly, -1.8% year-on-year)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We continue working to create quality employment, with permanent contracts and sustained reductions in unemployment,&#8221; highlighted the Minister of Labour.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The labour market of the Balearic Islands closed September with <a href=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/en\/paro-interanual-desciende-septiembre-balears\/\"> [&#8230;]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":107873,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1515,1513],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-149527","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economy-and-tourism","category-society"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 -
