According to official data, the region reaches <strong>666,940 social security affiliations<\/strong>, a <strong>2.2% increase<\/strong> compared to a year ago, while <strong>unemployment<\/strong> stands at <strong>25,968 people<\/strong>, which represents a <strong>year-on-year decrease of 7.6%<\/strong>, <strong>0.3 points higher<\/strong> than that registered in <strong>July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34049 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/empleo-1-e1738141836386.jpg\" alt=\"employment third quarter 2023 balearic islands\" width=\"781\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This means that the <strong>annual unemployment reduction rate<\/strong> in the Balearic Islands remains <strong>above the Spanish average<\/strong>, which stood at -5.6%.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThese are historic figures that consolidate the Islands in a situation of full employment and with the best labour results for a month of August,\u201d stressed the regional minister for Labour, Public Function and Social Dialogue, Catalina Cabrer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Balearic archipelago also <strong>leads job creation<\/strong> across all economic sectors. The <strong>construction sector<\/strong> shows a <strong>year-on-year drop in unemployment of 13.1%<\/strong>, <strong>industry 5.5%<\/strong>, and the <strong>hospitality sector<\/strong> recorded a <strong>reduction of 8.8%<\/strong>. Cabrer noted that \u201cwe must wait until the end of the season to accurately assess the evolution of the hospitality sector.\u201d Despite complaints from the sector about a less intense campaign than expected, the minister stressed that \u201cthe data show a reduction in unemployment and significant job creation, and the current figures <strong>do not reflect that negative perception<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All the islands report year-on-year drops in unemployment: <strong>Mallorca<\/strong> has <strong>22,048 unemployed people<\/strong> (-8.3%), <strong>Menorca 1,590<\/strong> (-4.7%), <strong>Eivissa 2,261<\/strong> (-1.8%) and <strong>Formentera 69<\/strong> (-25%), the largest relative decrease.<\/p>\n<h2>Fall in recruitment<\/h2>\n<p>During August, <strong>26,201 contracts<\/strong> were signed, of which <strong>16,186 were permanent<\/strong>, representing <strong>62%<\/strong> of the total, <strong>well above the national average<\/strong>. The remaining <strong>10,015 contracts<\/strong> were <strong>temporary<\/strong>. However, this represents a <strong>year-on-year fall of 12.7%<\/strong> compared to <strong>August 2024<\/strong> and almost <strong>0.5 points more<\/strong> than last July, when the decrease was <strong>8%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDespite the good dynamics of our labour market throughout the summer, the <strong>sharp drop in new contracts is significant<\/strong>, as a result of the <strong>lower turnover<\/strong> that various business sectors have been reporting,\u201d said the president of the Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands (CAEB), Carmen Planas.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition, the <strong>special regime for self-employed workers<\/strong> (RETA) has more than <strong>107,000 affiliations<\/strong>, about <strong>16%<\/strong> of the total, almost <strong>double<\/strong> the Spanish average.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the data reflect a <strong>solid labour market in the Balearic Islands<\/strong> with full employment, although with <strong>less dynamism<\/strong> in the creation of new contracts, a sign that some sectors are adjusting their activity to the lower turnover observed during the season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Balearic Islands have recorded historic figures in social security affiliation <a href=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/en\/balears-empleo-agosto-2025\/\"> [&#8230;]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":34050,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1515,1513],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-148754","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economy-and-tourism","category-society"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 -
