The Government of the Balearic Islands<\/strong> has introduced a submarine robot for coastal monitoring<\/strong>, aiming to enhance the supervision of ports, anchorages and marine areas<\/strong> of high environmental value. This device will allow the detection of irregularities, assessment of infrastructure condition, and protection of marine biodiversity<\/strong> more efficiently.<\/p>\n

The submarine robot, a CHASING M2 PRO ROV<\/strong>, can operate down to 300 metres depth<\/strong> and is equipped with a USBL acoustic positioning system<\/strong> that ensures maximum accuracy. It also provides high-resolution images and videos<\/strong>, transmitting inspections of piers, dykes and pontoons<\/strong> in real time. This facilitates the work of technicians and allows a rapid response to any incident, according to the Government.<\/p>\n

Integration with the coastal monitoring system<\/h2>\n

The submarine robot joins the comprehensive system of Ports of the Balearic Islands (PortsIB)<\/strong>, which already includes 22 vessels<\/strong>, inspectors<\/strong> with enforcement powers, a drone operating ten hours a day<\/strong>, and a control centre<\/strong> that centralises citizen services and coordinates all operations. This combination of technology and human resources ensures continuous and efficient supervision of Balearic waters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Environmental protection benefits<\/h2>\n

The President of the Menorca Island Council, Adolfo Vilafranca, highlighted that the measure strengthens biodiversity protection and supports responsible management of the island, designated a Biosphere Reserve<\/strong>. The robot will allow more detailed monitoring of anchorages and Posidonia meadows, preserving the marine ecosystem against irregular activities.<\/p>\n

Inspections and monitoring of nautical activities<\/h3>\n

Since June, the Ministry has issued 82 reports for irregularities in nautical activities, mainly related to expired or incorrectly submitted declarations and breaches of charter contracts.
