These measures form part of the executive&#8217;s commitment to <strong data-start=\"575\" data-end=\"668\">flood prevention, territorial protection, and citizen safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_130543\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-130543\" class=\"size-full wp-image-130543\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Limpieza-de-torrentes-Mallorca-20252.webp\" alt=\"torrents in Mallorca\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-130543\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The President of the Govern, Margalida Prohens (second from left), attends cleaning works on a torrent in Mallorca. Photos: CAIB.<\/p><\/div>\n<p data-start=\"673\" data-end=\"1000\">In the <strong>first half of 2025<\/strong> alone, works have been carried out on more than 50 kilometres of watercourses, and further interventions are planned for the remainder of the year, which could bring the total for 2025 to <strong data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"909\">around 97 kilometres<\/strong>, reaching more than 298 kilometres of torrents treated in Mallorca in just three years.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1047\">Tripled investment in maintenance<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1049\" data-end=\"1454\">The Govern has <strong data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1146\">tripled the budget allocated for the maintenance and conservation of torrents<\/strong> in 2025, amounting to <strong data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1197\">\u20ac17.1 million<\/strong>. This investment includes contributions from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), the insularity factor, and the hydraulic infrastructure sub-programme. In addition, owners of properties adjacent to torrents are allowed to clean their sections, further reinforcing flood prevention.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1456\" data-end=\"1671\">\u201c<strong data-start=\"1457\" data-end=\"1520\">Cleaning the torrents does not guarantee there will be no floods<\/strong>, but every metre cleaned reduces the likelihood of blockages and overflows, minimising risks and protecting citizens,\u201d explained Prohens.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1713\">Main works on torrents in Mallorca<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"1816\">During August, cleaning and improvement works were carried out on several stretches in Mallorca:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"2492\">\n<li data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"1921\">\n<p data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1921\"><strong data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1865\">Torrent de S\u2019Estret (S\u2019Arrac\u00f3, Andratx):<\/strong> removal of undergrowth and cutting of reeds over 700 metres.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1922\" data-end=\"2002\">\n<p data-start=\"1924\" data-end=\"2002\"><strong data-start=\"1924\" data-end=\"1962\">Torrent de Vinagrella (Sa Pobla):<\/strong> vegetation removed over 200 metres.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2003\" data-end=\"2090\">\n<p data-start=\"2005\" data-end=\"2090\"><strong data-start=\"2005\" data-end=\"2038\">Torrent de B\u00fager (Sa Pobla):<\/strong> extraction of rhizomes and vegetation over 350 metres.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2091\" data-end=\"2169\">\n<p data-start=\"2093\" data-end=\"2169\"><strong data-start=\"2093\" data-end=\"2129\">EDAR de Sant Joan ditch:<\/strong> 750 metres of scrub cleared.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2170\" data-end=\"2237\">\n<p data-start=\"2172\" data-end=\"2237\"><strong data-start=\"2172\" data-end=\"2211\">Torrent de Es Revolts (Capdepera):<\/strong> 150 metres of undergrowth cleared.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2238\" data-end=\"2304\">\n<p data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2304\"><strong data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2278\">Torrent de Es Millac (Capdepera):<\/strong> 200 metres cleared.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2305\" data-end=\"2384\">\n<p data-start=\"2307\" data-end=\"2384\"><strong data-start=\"2307\" data-end=\"2344\">Torrent de Na Peda\u00e7 (Capdepera):<\/strong> rhizomes removed over 200 metres.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2385\" data-end=\"2492\">\n<p data-start=\"2387\" data-end=\"2492\"><strong data-start=\"2387\" data-end=\"2411\">Torrent de Manacor:<\/strong> 25 metres of wall restored and 80 additional metres of watercourse cleaned.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2494\" data-end=\"2591\">In total, these works add more than <strong data-start=\"2532\" data-end=\"2588\">2.6 kilometres of additional intervention in August<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2593\" data-end=\"2647\">Territorialised organisation for greater efficiency<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2649\" data-end=\"2893\">Works are planned across <strong data-start=\"2688\" data-end=\"2714\">three lots in Mallorca<\/strong> \u2014 Tramuntana, central area, and Llevant \u2014 allowing the specific needs of each area to be addressed, taking into account their topography and density of watercourse stretches.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2649\" data-end=\"2893\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-130541 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Limpieza-de-torrentes-Mallorca-2025.webp\" alt=\"torrents in Mallorca\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2895\" data-end=\"3231\">Maintenance of the torrents in Mallorca includes undergrowth clearance, pruning and felling of at-risk trees, sediment removal, elimination of invasive species, slope stabilisation, and repair of structural elements, ensuring landscape conservation and the safety of nearby urban areas.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"3233\" data-end=\"3272\">Prevention against extreme events<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"3274\" data-end=\"3586\">Prohens highlighted that zero risk does not exist and that <strong data-start=\"3326\" data-end=\"3395\">climate change intensifies torrential rainfall events<\/strong>.
