The Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior of the Balearic Government keeps the orange alert for rain and storms in Mallorca<\/strong> active, within the framework of the Special Plan for Adverse Weather Events<\/strong> (METEOBAL). This is the first time<\/strong> such alerts have been activated since the start of the flood season<\/strong>, declared on 15 August<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the coming hours in Mallorca will be marked by instability, with a critical period expected between 13:00 and 18:00 today<\/strong>. The arrival of a cold air front colliding with warm air masses<\/strong> will cause intense storms<\/strong>, with rainfall potentially reaching 50 litres per square metre<\/strong>, accompanied by lightning, possible hail, and a slight drop in temperatures. Winds may reach gusts of up to 80 km\/h<\/strong>. Storms are expected to mainly affect the southern and eastern parts of the island<\/strong>, moving progressively.<\/p>\n

Awareness campaign<\/h2>\n

For the first time<\/strong>, the Government has launched a public awareness campaign on self-protection against phenomena such as DANA<\/strong> (Isolated Depression in Upper Levels), under the motto \u201cInformation saves lives, protect yourself, stay informed\u201d<\/strong>.
