This new institutional structure aims to improve prevention, forecasting capabilities and response to one of the main natural risks facing the Balearic territory: flooding, which is becoming increasingly frequent due to climate change.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"901\" data-end=\"1271\">The inaugural meeting was chaired by the President of the Government, <strong data-start=\"968\" data-end=\"985\">Marga Prohens<\/strong>, and was attended by representatives from all areas of the Executive, as well as key institutions such as the <strong data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1151\">University of the Balearic Islands (UIB)<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1199\">State Meteorological Agency (AEMET)<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1270\">Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands (FELIB)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1273\" data-end=\"1507\">\n<p data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1507\">\u201cFor the first time, the directorates-general for Emergencies, Water Resources, Innovation and departments such as IB-Digital are working side by side to prevent and respond to flood risks,\u201d Prohens emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1507\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-121695\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/presentacion-inuncaib-inundaciones-balears.webp\" alt=\"presentaci\u00f3n inuncaib inundaciones balears\" width=\"1100\" height=\"733\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1509\" data-end=\"1590\">Cross-sector coordination and technology to tackle flood risks<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1592\" data-end=\"1840\">For the first time, INUNCAIB brings together the responsibilities of <strong data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1706\">Civil Protection, hydraulic planning, and technology<\/strong> under one umbrella, promoting a <strong data-start=\"1757\" data-end=\"1812\">coordinated approach based on scientific and technical data<\/strong>. This new model includes:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1842\" data-end=\"2083\">\n<li data-start=\"1842\" data-end=\"1900\">\n<p data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"1900\"><strong data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"1872\">Basin sensorization<\/strong> and real-time monitoring.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1901\" data-end=\"1968\">\n<p data-start=\"1903\" data-end=\"1968\"><strong data-start=\"1903\" data-end=\"1940\">Advanced weather forecasting<\/strong>, in collaboration with AEMET.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1969\" data-end=\"2083\">\n<p data-start=\"1971\" data-end=\"2083\"><strong data-start=\"1971\" data-end=\"2013\">Permanent presence of a meteorologist<\/strong> at the Emergency Coordination Center during risk situations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2263\">In addition, the Government has prepared an agreement with AEMET to <strong data-start=\"2143\" data-end=\"2181\">enhance forecasting capacity<\/strong>, strengthen the territory\u2019s sensor network, and optimize institutional response.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2265\" data-end=\"2330\">Complementary Government measures to prevent flooding<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2332\" data-end=\"2420\">During the meeting, President Prohens outlined other ongoing actions:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2422\" data-end=\"3059\">\n<li data-start=\"2422\" data-end=\"2516\">\n<p data-start=\"2424\" data-end=\"2516\"><strong data-start=\"2424\" data-end=\"2468\">Amendment of territorial regulations<\/strong> to increase safety in flood-prone areas.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2517\" data-end=\"2662\">\n<p data-start=\"2519\" data-end=\"2662\"><strong data-start=\"2519\" data-end=\"2578\">Promotion of Municipal Emergency Plans (PEMUs)<\/strong>: 9 already approved, 7 in draft stage, and 6 municipalities have requested technical support.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2663\" data-end=\"2716\">\n<p data-start=\"2665\" data-end=\"2716\"><strong data-start=\"2665\" data-end=\"2715\">New OnCall emergency management system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2717\" data-end=\"2816\">\n<p data-start=\"2719\" data-end=\"2816\"><strong data-start=\"2719\" data-end=\"2742\">Agreement with IB-RED<\/strong> to use 39 surveillance cameras distributed across the territory.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2817\" data-end=\"2917\">\n<p data-start=\"2819\" data-end=\"2917\"><strong data-start=\"2819\" data-end=\"2867\">Reinforcement of the TETRAIB communications network<\/strong>, essential during adverse weather episodes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2918\" data-end=\"3059\">\n<p data-start=\"2920\" data-end=\"3059\"><strong data-start=\"2920\" data-end=\"2945\">Stream cleaning operations<\/strong>: over 310 kilometers cleared in the past two years.
