The wine sector in the Balearic Islands continues to grow.<\/strong> The archipelago will have 16.29 more hectares of vineyards<\/strong>, according to a recent resolution by the Agriculture and Rural Development Commission. This expansion consolidates the productive potential of the sector in the islands, which in the last five years has already added 100 hectares<\/strong> through this authorisation system.<\/p>\n

\"Balearic<\/p>\n

Of the new hectares, 11<\/strong> will be allocated to Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) – Binissalem and Pla i Llevant<\/strong> – and the remaining 5.29<\/strong> to Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). Three<\/strong> of these plots will be cultivated by young winemakers entering the sector for the first time, a priority within the allocation criteria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Winery Modernisation<\/h2>\n

In addition, investments in winery modernisation<\/strong> worth 7 million euros<\/strong> have been approved, and 336,570 euros<\/strong> have been allocated for the restructuring of more than 200 hectares of vineyard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Director General of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Fernando Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, explained that \u201cthese resolutions represent a boost for the wine sector to continue an activity already deeply rooted in the archipelago.\u201d He also reiterated that the Ministry \u201cworks closely with the sector to ensure the profitability of the farms, from which high-quality products are produced.\u201d<\/p>\n
