The Consell de Govern<\/strong> will approve this Friday a pioneering project<\/strong> to use, for the first time, funds from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), or ecotax<\/strong>, for the purchase and demolition of disused or dilapidated tourist accommodation<\/strong>. The measure aims to reduce accommodation capacity<\/strong>, ease pressure on the territory<\/strong>, and move towards a more balanced and environmentally respectful tourism model<\/strong>, according to the Govern.<\/p>\n

With an initial budget of 15 million euros<\/strong>, the programme will finance the acquisition of obsolete tourist properties for subsequent demolition, particularly in areas classified as mature or affected by tourism saturation<\/strong>. The initiative will allow these spaces to be transformed into green areas, public facilities, social housing or rewilding projects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Govern will implement the measure through public calls for applications<\/strong> aimed at municipalities and local entities<\/strong>, which will be able to submit proposals between October and November 2025<\/strong>. Once the projects are approved, local authorities will have a maximum period of 18 months to carry them out<\/strong> and an additional 3 months to justify the work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
