Balearic water reserves<\/strong> closed the past month of June<\/strong> with a concerning decline<\/strong>, standing at 48% of total capacity<\/strong>, three points below the previous month (51%) and two points less than in June 2024 (50%). By island, Mallorca<\/strong> has dropped from 52% to 50%<\/strong>, Menorca<\/strong> from 48% to 42%<\/strong>, and Eivissa has decreased from 36% to 34%<\/strong>. The drop in reserves highlights a sustained negative trend<\/strong>, worsened by the lack of rainfall and high temperatures<\/strong>. According to the regional government, everything suggests that Balearic water reserves will continue to decrease during the month of July, which could further worsen the situation in the coming months.<\/p>\n

\"Balearic<\/p>\n

At present, the drought scenario extends across almost the entire Balearic territory. Currently, 98.4% of the Demand Units (UD) are in a pre-alert situation, while only Formentera \u2013 representing 1.6% of the territory \u2013 maintains normal status. Nine UD have shown a worsening in the drought index: Menorca, Manacor-Felanitx, Migjorn, Es Pla, Palma-Alc\u00fadia, North Tramuntana, South Tramuntana, Eivissa and Formentera. Only Art\u00e0 shows a slight improvement.<\/p>\n

The overall index of the Hydrographic Demarcation remains at 0.400, the same value as a year ago, although clearly lower than that recorded in 2023 (0.503), reinforcing the downward trend in water indicators.<\/p>\n

June the driest since 1961<\/h2>\n

The situation has been exacerbated by extremely adverse weather conditions. According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), June was a very dry<\/strong> month in the Balearic Islands, with an average rainfall of just 0.1 litres per square metre (l\/m\u00b2)<\/strong>, well below the usual 15.3 l\/m\u00b2. This makes it the driest June since records began in 1961<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Broken down by islands, Mallorca received only 0.2 l\/m\u00b2 (compared to the usual 16.7 l\/m\u00b2), Menorca 0.1 l\/m\u00b2 (vs 13.3 l\/m\u00b2), and Eivissa and Formentera recorded no rainfall at all (0.0 l\/m\u00b2).<\/p>\n

In addition to the lack of rain, there has been a significant rise in temperatures. June was extremely hot<\/strong>, with an average of 25.3 \u00baC<\/strong> across the archipelago and a positive anomaly of +3.3 \u00baC<\/strong> above normal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
