The contract, with a budget of <strong data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"921\">\u20ac3.5 million<\/strong> (VAT included), will be financed through the <strong>Sustainable Tourism Tax 2024\u20132025<\/strong> programme, under the plan <em data-start=\"1044\" data-end=\"1100\">\u2018Pact for water management and resource guarantee\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1164\">Three desalination plants tailored to each island&#8217;s needs<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1285\">Each facility will have an estimated capacity of <strong data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1249\">15,000 cubic metres per day<\/strong> and will be located in strategic areas:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1287\" data-end=\"2202\">\n<li data-start=\"1287\" data-end=\"1579\">\n<p data-start=\"1289\" data-end=\"1579\">In <strong data-start=\"1292\" data-end=\"1304\">Mallorca<\/strong>, the plant will be located in the <strong data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1344\">Llevant<\/strong> area of the island, where aquifers suffer from overexploitation and poor quality. It will allow the high-capacity supply network to reach municipalities with water shortages, reinforcing the current system of underground sources and the Sa Costera spring.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1581\" data-end=\"1821\">\n<p data-start=\"1583\" data-end=\"1821\">In <strong data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1597\">Menorca<\/strong>, the projected desalination plant will serve the <strong data-start=\"1646\" data-end=\"1657\">Llevant<\/strong> area, affected by high nitrate levels in the aquifers. It will respond to a joint request from the municipalities of <strong data-start=\"1780\" data-end=\"1787\">Ma\u00f3<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"1803\">Es Castell<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1806\" data-end=\"1820\">Sant Llu\u00eds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"2202\">\n<p data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"2202\">In <strong data-start=\"1828\" data-end=\"1839\">Eivissa<\/strong>, although three plants are already operational, a fourth one is deemed necessary in the <strong data-start=\"1944\" data-end=\"1954\">Ponent<\/strong> area. This new facility will reduce reliance on aquifers, prevent costly transfers from other plants, and ensure supply to the municipality of <strong data-start=\"2103\" data-end=\"2117\">Sant Josep<\/strong>, while also improving preventive maintenance capabilities across the entire system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2266\">A strategic commitment to sustainable water management<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2268\" data-end=\"2536\">The contract also includes studies on location alternatives, seawater intake systems, brine outfalls, hydraulic connections, and regulation tanks, along with all the technical and environmental documentation required to obtain permits and licences.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2538\" data-end=\"2910\">With this project, the Govern strengthens its <a href=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/en\/desalacion-balears-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>commitment to desalination<\/strong><\/a> as a key water strategy in response to aquifer depletion on the islands.
