With a PhD in Fine Arts and 33 years of experience illuminating faces, the Canary Island native\u2014who has lived on the island for the past 25 years\u2014has found his main source of inspiration in the bridal industry, which he combines with work for magazines like Hola<\/em>, Vogue<\/em>, and artistic direction for shoots<\/em> and events such as the Balearic Bridal Show Mallorca Dream Days<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy first year in the bridal industry, I only did a few weddings, but last year the number increased significantly,\u201d Ojeda says of his current professional stage, after two decades in artistic direction representing an international makeup brand with which he traveled the world. \u201cClients look for professionalism and locals, as we know the terrain and how to work the skin so that the makeup lasts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Faced with Mallorca\u2019s heat and humidity, \u201cthe most important thing in makeup is that the skin is well hydrated and properly set with specific products.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quality is another key factor: \u201cBeauty products that stay in contact with the skin for most of the day should be high quality and free of harmful ingredients,\u201d he warns. \u201cIt\u2019s very important to be careful when choosing what you buy, so that your skin or your clients\u2019 skin doesn\u2019t lose its health and youth prematurely.\u201d The same goes for expiration dates: \u201cAnything that contains emollients\u2014liquids\u2014will show an icon of an open jar with a number: 6, 12, 24\u2026 These represent the months of the product\u2019s shelf life. And no, it\u2019s not a marketing trick\u2014big brands don\u2019t take that kind of risk.\u201d<\/p>\n

And this season, it\u2019s all about a natural look with a retro touch,\u201d he shares. Tools are also essential: \u201cA good brush delivers the freshness, naturalness, and subtlety that fingers can’t.\u201d Something Ojeda knows firsthand, as he has his own brush line, Gold by Jose Ojeda<\/em>, launched during the lockdown and now celebrating its fourth anniversary.<\/p>\n

The makeup artist<\/em> prefers to talk about \u201cskin refinement\u201d for grooms, who are often hesitant about makeup. \u201cMany are surprised when they see themselves\u2014just applying a product to the face and a bit of eye contour\u2014they still look like themselves, just with fresher skin. You don\u2019t need much more,\u201d he concludes.<\/p>\n
