From unexpected corners of the planet where the island\u2019s spirit lives on, to international projects bearing a Balearic imprint, this section showcases how Mallorca thrives, inspires, and reinvents itself beyond its geographical limits.<\/p>\n<h3>A lla\u00fct turns 100 years old&#8230; on the Costa Brava<\/h3>\n<p>In 1925, a lla\u00fct named Sant Isidre was built in Portocolom, which was to have a most unusual history. Initially intended for trawling, its course changed when it was caught in smuggling activities in the 1930s. This led to its confiscation by the Navy of the Spanish Republic and its use as a warship in the Civil War. In the 1970s,\u00a0it passed to Greenpeace for oceanographic work. Today, in its centenary year,\u00a0this silent witness of Mediterranean\u00a0history is still sailing and offers sightseeing tours from April to November\u00a0around Cap de Creus, Girona.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_120500\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-120500\" class=\"size-full wp-image-120500\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Llaut-Sant-Isidre_MALLORCA-PER-TOT-ARREU.webp\" alt=\"Lla\u00fct Sant Isidre\" width=\"780\" height=\"585\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-120500\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Charter Sant Isidre.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>The S\u00f3ller aperitif that seduces\u00a0the world<\/h3>\n<p>A refreshing Mallorcan aperitif has been conquering\u00a0palates on and off the island since the summer of 2022. It&#8217;s called Canonita and is made by Antonio Nadal Destiler\u00edas from white\u00a0wine and <em>canoneta<\/em> oranges, an exclusive variety that is only grown\u00a0in the S\u00f3ller valley. Last year, Canonita sold 180,000 bottles, of which 30,000 stayed in Mallorca, while the rest went to countries\u00a0such as Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Australia and Venezuela. After operating continuously for more than 160 years, this emblematic establishment in San Justo street, in San Juan, closed in 2012 for renovations and reopened in 2014. Its menu fuses island tradition with Puerto Rican cuisine, and its star dish is the <em>asopao<\/em>, inspired by <em>arr\u00f2s brut<\/em>, a typical Mallorcan rice recipe.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_120504\" style=\"width: 595px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-120504\" class=\"wp-image-120504\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Restaurante-Puerto-Rico_MALLORCA-PER-TOT-ARREU.webp\" alt=\"La Mallorquina Puerto Rico\" width=\"585\" height=\"780\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-120504\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: la-mallorquina.com.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>In Alicante they speak Mallorcan<\/h3>\n<p>No one would be surprised to find Es Figueral, Es Coll de sa Creu or Sa Caseta des Moros in Mallorca. However, they all belong to T\u00e0rbena, a municipality in Alicante where they speak <em>Parlar de Sa<\/em>, a dialect full of linguistic traits typical of the island, such as the \u2018salty article,\u2019 of which they are so proud that every summer they organise <em>Sa Festa<\/em>, which includes a literary competition in Tarbener. Its roots go back to the 17th century, when hundreds of Mallorcans\u00a0from Santa Margalida, Manacor, or Pollen\u00e7a emigrated to repopulate Marina\u00a0Baixa after the expulsion of the Moors.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_120506\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-120506\" class=\"size-full wp-image-120506\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Sa-Caseta-des-Moros_02_MALLORCA-PER-TOT-ARREU.webp\" alt=\"T\u00e0rbena\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-120506\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: T\u00e0rbena. comunitatvalenciana.com.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Sobrasada \u2018made in USA\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Described on its website as \u201ca typical Mallorcan spread with a p\u00e2t\u00e9-like texture and spectacular flavour\u201d, the company La Espa\u00f1ola Meats, Inc. distributes sobrasada Do\u00f1a Juana in the\u00a0US market. But it is not imported from the island; it is made in Harbor City, California, from local pork, but with Spanish virgin olive oil.
