This is according to the latest report by the <a href=\"https:\/\/impulsabalears.org\/es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Fundaci\u00f3 Impulsa Balears<\/strong><\/a>, which analyses the <strong>evolution of the archipelago\u2019s foreign trade<\/strong> &#8220;in a <strong>highly tense international context<\/strong>, where the <strong>benefits of globalisation<\/strong> are increasingly being <strong>called into question<\/strong> and <strong>restrictive trade measures<\/strong>, such as those currently implemented by the <strong>United States<\/strong>, are on the rise,\u201d the organisation notes in a statement.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"288\" data-end=\"717\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-119633 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Expostaciones.webp\" alt=\"Exports\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1462\">In addition, <strong>geographical expansion<\/strong> has helped to <strong>reduce dependence on traditional markets<\/strong>. <strong>Exports to EU-27 countries<\/strong> currently account for <strong>55.9%<\/strong> of the total (down from 60.5% in 2023), the <strong>lowest level in the past eight years<\/strong>. Meanwhile, the <strong>Balearic presence<\/strong> has grown in other regions such as the <strong>rest of Europe<\/strong> (13.3% vs 3.6% in 2023) and <strong>Latin America<\/strong> (7.5% vs 6.3% in 2023).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1462\">The export basket, which has <strong>increased its total number of entries<\/strong> compared to the previous year (<strong>764<\/strong>), is structured into 121 product families and 20 main categories.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1462\">Diversification helps cushion global trade tensions<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1933\">A more <strong>diversified commercial strategy<\/strong> allows the archipelago to <strong>better withstand the impact of global trade tensions<\/strong>, such as those stemming from <strong>US tariff policies<\/strong>. In this regard, the US market represents a <strong>limited share of total sales<\/strong> (0.8%), although it shows notable interest in certain Balearic products such as <strong>footwear<\/strong> (19.5% of all exports to the US), <strong>cheese<\/strong> (13.9%), <strong>furniture<\/strong> (10.7%), <strong>textile goods<\/strong> (7.8%), <strong>chemical products<\/strong> (7.6%) and <strong>artworks<\/strong> (7.1%).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2191\" data-end=\"2586\">The analysis by Impulsa Balears also highlights <strong>96 products<\/strong> in which the islands show <strong>significant comparative advantages over the national average<\/strong>. These include traditional sectors such as <strong>blown glass<\/strong> (with a relative importance in the Balearic export basket 13.3 times greater than the national average), <strong>porcelain tableware<\/strong> (10.2), <strong>potatoes<\/strong> (5.5), <strong>leather footwear<\/strong> (5.4), <strong>almonds<\/strong> (4.2), <strong>hair care preparations<\/strong> (3.0), <strong>plant juices and extracts<\/strong> (2.7), and <strong>cheese and curd<\/strong> (2.2).<\/p>\n<p>This trend also extends to product groups with <strong>greater technological, digital or artificial intelligence potential<\/strong>, such as the <strong>nautical sector<\/strong> \u2013 where exports include yachts and other recreational boats (42.5), passenger and cargo vessels (25.5), boat sails and awnings (8.9), and buoys, rafts and moorings (4.6) \u2013 as well as the <strong>chemical industry<\/strong> \u2013 including soap (2.1), cleaning products (1.9) and insecticides and disinfectants (1.8).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2976\" data-end=\"3188\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">These figures are available through the updated <a href=\"https:\/\/impulsabalears.org\/es\/area-privada\/aplicaciones\/exporta\">i|exporta<\/a> app and are analysed in detail in the latest edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/impulsabalears.org\/es\/area-privada\/publicaciones\/mercados#numero7\">i|mercats<\/a>: \u201cIs it possible to limit the impact of today\u2019s turbulent trade environment?\u201d.
