The Consell de Mallorca will intensify the fight against illegal tourist activity this summer<\/strong> with an ambitious inspection plan exceeding 3,000 actions<\/strong> until 15 November<\/strong>. The main objective<\/strong> is to eradicate irregular holiday rentals<\/strong>, which will account for 75% of the planned actions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The conseller of Tourism, Jos\u00e9 Marcial Rodr\u00edguez D\u00edaz, announced that approximately 3,100 establishments will be visited during these six months<\/strong>, thanks to a historic reinforcement of the department’s human and material resources<\/strong>. Currently, the team has 27 active inspectors<\/strong> – to be increased to 30<\/strong> -, compared to 20 previously<\/strong>, as well as a new<\/strong> call centre<\/strong><\/em> and the division of the administrative unit<\/strong> responsible for inspections into two areas: legal and illegal offerings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Adaptation to the new tourist decree from the Govern<\/h2>\n

This plan complies with the new tourist decree approved by the Govern<\/strong><\/a> and the law in force since 2017<\/strong>, which requires controls on establishments inactive for the last 3 years<\/strong>, quality improvement<\/strong>, and verification of the Responsible Declarations of Start of Tourist Activity<\/strong> (DRIATs).<\/p>\n

Besides focusing on illegal rentals, 20% of inspections will respond to citizen complaints and claims<\/strong>, and the rest will monitor possible irregularities in the legal offering<\/strong>, such as over-occupancy, excess tourism or the use of 3% local products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Rodr\u00edguez highlighted that in 2024<\/strong> inspections against illegal offerings tripled<\/strong> and there was a 25% increase in opened cases for unauthorised rentals<\/strong>. \u201cThe plan implemented last year works, it is the right one<\/strong> and allows us to fight illegal offerings, whatever type and sector they operate in,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
