The Consell de Mallorca<\/strong> has taken a decisive step in the protection of the island\u2019s oral heritage<\/strong> by launching the process to declare<\/strong> the Rondalles mallorquines<\/em><\/strong> (Mallorcan traditional tales) as an Asset of Intangible Cultural Interest<\/strong>. This measure was agreed this Monday by the Consell Assessor de Patrimoni Cultural Immaterial<\/strong>, which has initiated the file drafted by writer and oral literature expert Caterina Valriu Llin\u00e0s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This declaration aims to preserve and revalue<\/strong> one of the most representative elements<\/strong> of Mallorca\u2019s narrative tradition<\/strong>. As noted by the vice-president of the Consell and head of Culture and Heritage, Ant\u00f2nia Roca<\/strong>, “the island institution has taken a decisive step to safeguard one of the most vibrant and beloved expressions of Mallorcan popular culture: the rondalles<\/em>“. Roca also emphasised that “the rondalles are not just tales, but a shared treasure that is part of our island\u2019s collective memory. Protecting them is an obligation we have as an institution and as a society”. This view was supported by the Consell Assessor, formed by historian Juan Jos\u00e9 Soler Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>; Palma city chronicler Bartomeu Bestard Cladera<\/strong>; musicologist Eug\u00e8nia Gallego Ca\u00f1ellas<\/strong>; fashion artisan and researcher Juana Maria Borr\u00e0s Riera<\/strong>; and Caterina Valriu herself.<\/p>\n

The historical, cultural and linguistic value of the Rondalles mallorquines<\/em><\/h2>\n

Valriu\u2019s report highlights the historical, cultural and linguistic value<\/strong> of these stories, collected by figures such as Antoni M. Alcover<\/strong> and now adapted to contemporary formats<\/strong> like theatre performances, games or digital apps<\/strong>. The document also warns of threats to their continuity, such as the gradual loss of the island\u2019s Catalan language, social changes and their frequent relegation to the realm of childhood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In order to promote knowledge and transmission of these tales, especially among younger generations, the Consell has planned a 2025 activities programme<\/strong> focused on the rondalles<\/em>. A key event will be the International Museum Day<\/strong>, on 18 May<\/strong>, featuring workshops, performances and activities for all audiences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Moreover, in collaboration with Editorial Moll<\/strong>, a series of initiatives will take place throughout the year<\/strong> to bring this intangible cultural heritage closer to the public and ensure its continued presence in the Mallorcan collective imagination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
