According to data collected by the Balearic Islands Labour Observatory (OTIB), the average annual social security affiliation reached <strong>570,010 people<\/strong>, an increase of <strong>3.3%<\/strong> compared to 2023, surpassing the national average of <strong>2.4%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_117947\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-117947\" class=\"size-full wp-image-117947\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Obras-e1741708041714.webp\" alt=\"construction works\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Obras-e1741708041714-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Obras-e1741708041714.webp 780w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-117947\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Palma City Council.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"912\">In addition, <strong>unemployment<\/strong> fell by <strong>8.3%<\/strong> compared to the previous year, bringing the average number of unemployed people to <strong>28,943<\/strong>. The <strong>administrative unemployment rate<\/strong> dropped to <strong>5.4%<\/strong>, the lowest in Spain, and well below the national average of <strong>11.8%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"914\" data-end=\"1261\"><strong>Working conditions<\/strong> also improved significantly. The <strong>temporary employment rate<\/strong> fell to <strong>8.7%<\/strong>, and the <strong>part-time rate<\/strong> dropped to <strong>12.7%<\/strong>, in contrast to the national figures of <strong>14.4%<\/strong> and <strong>20.4%<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1263\" data-end=\"1325\">Sector growth: boost in industry and construction<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1327\" data-end=\"1721\">Although the <strong>services sector<\/strong> remains the <strong>cornerstone of the Balearic labour market<\/strong>, accounting for <strong>81.6%<\/strong> of total employment and <strong>495,800 employed people<\/strong>, the <strong>greatest employment growth<\/strong> was seen in <strong>industry<\/strong> (18.8%) and <strong>construction<\/strong> (13.8%). <strong>Agriculture<\/strong> also saw a 3% increase, while the <strong>tertiary sector<\/strong> posted a more moderate rise of 0.4%, indicating stabilisation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1965\">The number of <strong>permanent contracts<\/strong> became the dominant trend across <strong>all sectors<\/strong>. Construction led with 93.3% of contracts being permanent, followed by agriculture (78.9%), industry (75.8%), and services (66.3%).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1967\" data-end=\"2008\">Higher wages and lower unemployment<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2010\" data-end=\"2478\">In terms of <strong>wages<\/strong>, the <strong>industrial sector<\/strong> ranked highest, with an <strong>average monthly wage cost per worker of \u20ac2,335<\/strong>, its <strong>historical peak<\/strong>, followed by <strong>services<\/strong> (\u20ac2,266), <strong>agriculture<\/strong> (\u20ac2,255), and <strong>construction<\/strong> (\u20ac2,112). These figures not only reflect improved earnings but also correspond to full and effective working hours, with the services sector having the lowest average working time (143 hours per month).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2480\" data-end=\"2900\">Unemployment declined across all sectors and regions, with the services sector contributing most to this drop, showing a 9.5% decrease and a total of 21,168 unemployed people. Industry also reduced unemployment in Mallorca and Menorca, although it rose slightly in Ibiza and Formentera. In construction and agriculture, the most significant reductions were recorded in the Pitiusas and Menorca, respectively.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2902\" data-end=\"2944\">Territorial employment specialisation<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2946\" data-end=\"3036\">The report also highlights territorial particularities in employment distribution:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3037\" data-end=\"3357\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3037\" data-end=\"3155\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3039\" data-end=\"3155\"><strong data-start=\"3039\" data-end=\"3051\">Mallorca<\/strong> accounts for the highest share of employment in healthcare (10.7%) and administrative activities (9.56%).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3156\" data-end=\"3255\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3158\" data-end=\"3255\"><strong data-start=\"3158\" data-end=\"3169\">Menorca<\/strong> stands out for its employment in commerce (21.9%) and public administration (8.5%).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3256\" data-end=\"3357\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3258\" data-end=\"3357\"><strong data-start=\"3258\" data-end=\"3293\">Ibiza and Formentera (Pitiusas)<\/strong> lead in hospitality (38.2%) and transport and storage (8%).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"3359\" data-end=\"3404\">Positive trend and reduced seasonality<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3406\" data-end=\"3794\">A key feature of the Balearic labour market in 2024 was the reduction in employment seasonality, particularly in the services sector.
