The emblematic Castle of Alar\u00f3<\/strong> will become publicly owned<\/strong> in the coming months thanks to the expropriation process<\/strong> promoted by the Consell de Mallorca.<\/strong> The island institution aims to turn this monument into a space for historical, archaeological and landscape interpretation<\/strong> open to all Mallorcans.<\/p>\n

The councillor for Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures, Fernando Rubio<\/strong>, has signed the order to start the procedure<\/strong> that will allow one of the island\u2019s most representative heritage sites to be recovered for the public.<\/p>\n

“Today we are taking a major step so that the Castle of Alar\u00f3 belongs to all Mallorcans<\/strong>. We are initiating the expropriation process that will ensure this emblematic monument, which is in serious danger of deterioration<\/strong>, becomes publicly owned,” said Fernando Rubio.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

An expropriation supported by Law 4\/2025 and the Territorial Plan of Mallorca<\/h3>\n

The expropriation process for the Castle of Alar\u00f3<\/strong> is based on Law 4\/2025 on urgent actions<\/strong> aimed at acquiring land through strategic residential projects in the Balearic Islands, and on the fourth amendment to the Territorial Plan of Mallorca<\/strong>, which provides for the compulsory expropriation of heritage assets and the creation of cultural and interpretive facilities.<\/p>\n

The Consell de Mallorca<\/strong> aims to protect and preserve the heritage, historical, archaeological, natural and landscape value<\/strong> of the castle. The institution recalls that both the Consell and the Alar\u00f3 Town Council<\/strong> have carried out restoration work in recent years, although some sections of the walls require urgent interventions<\/strong> to halt their deterioration.<\/p>\n

The project foresees that the castle will be devoted to the conservation, restoration, interpretation and public enjoyment<\/strong> of its values, ensuring public access and sustainable management in line with its designation as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

History of the Castle of Alar\u00f3<\/h3>\n

The Castle of Alar\u00f3<\/strong> is a military fortress located atop the Puig de Alar\u00f3<\/strong>, whose origins date back to the year 902<\/strong>, when the Saracens arrived on the island. Throughout history, it was occupied by various conquering forces until it was abandoned in the 14th<\/strong> and 15th centuries<\/strong>, although a military garrison remained there until 1741<\/strong>. From that time onwards, the castle took on a solely religious role, as an oratory was built inside it in 1622<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition to its historical value, the Castle of Alar\u00f3<\/strong> offers stunning views of the Serra de Tramuntana<\/strong> and the Pla de Mallorca<\/strong>, making it an ideal place to enjoy the landscape.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
