This is highlighted in the Economic Outlook Analysis for the first quarter of 2025, presented by the Vice President of the Government, Antoni Costa, and the Director-General of Economy and Statistics, Catalina Barcel\u00f3. &#8220;The economy of the Balearic Islands shows strong economic dynamism that has exceeded, and I say this with pride, <strong>all expectations<\/strong>,&#8221; Costa stated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"459\" data-end=\"705\">The archipelago&#8217;s growth has not only maintained the pace of 2023 but has even <strong>necessitated an upward revision<\/strong> of the previous year&#8217;s figure, now standing at <strong>4.1%<\/strong>. This positive progress has been recorded across all productive sectors:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"707\" data-end=\"833\">\n<li data-start=\"707\" data-end=\"732\"><strong data-start=\"709\" data-end=\"722\">Services<\/strong>: +4.3%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"733\" data-end=\"768\"><strong data-start=\"735\" data-end=\"758\">Industry &amp; Energy<\/strong>: +2.6%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"797\"><strong data-start=\"771\" data-end=\"787\">Construction<\/strong>: +1.9%<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"833\"><strong data-start=\"800\" data-end=\"823\">Agriculture &amp; Fishing<\/strong>: +1.5%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"953\">By islands, Mallorca led growth in 2024 with 4.4%, followed by the Piti\u00fcses (+3.3%) and Menorca (+1.5%).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"953\">Looking ahead to <strong>2025<\/strong>, the Balearic economy is expected to maintain a <strong>positive trend<\/strong>, with estimated growth of <strong>2.7%<\/strong>, once again exceeding the national forecast.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_118153\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-118153\" class=\"wp-image-118153\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Coyuntura-economica-2025.webp\" alt=\"Balearic economy\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-118153\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Director-General of Economy and Statistics, Catalina Barcel\u00f3, and the Vice President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Antoni Costa. Photo: CAIB.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1216\"><strong data-start=\"1170\" data-end=\"1214\">Key economic results for the Balearic economy in 2024<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1352\"><strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1350\">Tourism at record highs<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"1353\" data-end=\"1446\">Tourism remains the main economic driver of the Balearic Islands, achieving record figures in 2024:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1448\" data-end=\"1896\">\n<li data-start=\"1448\" data-end=\"1546\"><strong data-start=\"1450\" data-end=\"1484\">Average daily tourist spending:<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"1485\" data-end=\"1498\">\u20ac187<\/strong>, the highest ever recorded (+44.3% since 2016).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1547\" data-end=\"1623\"><strong data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1565\">Total expenditure:<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"1566\" data-end=\"1594\">\u20ac22.381 billion<\/strong> (+12.2% compared to 2023).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1624\" data-end=\"1682\"><strong data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1654\">Average spend per person:<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"1655\" data-end=\"1670\">\u20ac1,195<\/strong> (+7.0%).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1683\" data-end=\"1765\"><strong data-start=\"1685\" data-end=\"1704\">Overnight stays:<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"1715\">+4.4%<\/strong>, maintaining an average stay of <strong data-start=\"1750\" data-end=\"1762\">6.4 days<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1766\" data-end=\"1896\"><strong data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1792\">Number of tourists:<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1810\">18.7 million<\/strong> (+4.9%).\n<ul data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1896\">\n<li data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1896\"><strong data-start=\"1827\" data-end=\"1850\">International tourism:<\/strong> +6.1%, the main growth driver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1898\" data-end=\"2050\">Furthermore, early 2025 data confirms the upward trend: in January, per capita daily expenditure increased by <strong data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2022\">8.0%<\/strong> compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1494\"><strong data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1492\">Services &amp; Retail Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1615\">\n<li data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1567\">Service sector revenue: <strong data-start=\"1523\" data-end=\"1533\">+7.0%<\/strong>, the second-highest increase in Spain.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1615\">Retail sales continue to rise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1617\" data-end=\"1631\"><strong data-start=\"1617\" data-end=\"1629\">Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1791\">\n<li data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1675\">New private housing starts: <strong data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1673\">+12.3%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1676\" data-end=\"1710\">Completed housing: <strong data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1708\">+4.2%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1791\">Housing prices: <strong data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1746\">+6.6%<\/strong>, below the national average (+8.4%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1834\"><strong data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1832\">Labour Market &amp; Foreign Trade<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2002\">\n<li data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"1888\">Record employment affiliation: <strong data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"1877\">555,954 affiliates<\/strong> (+3.5%).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1889\" data-end=\"1941\">Trade surplus: <strong data-start=\"1912\" data-end=\"1939\">\u20ac1.018 billion<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1942\" data-end=\"1971\">Exports: <strong data-start=\"1959\" data-end=\"1969\">+9.9%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2002\">Imports: <strong data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2000\">-14.1%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thus, the Balearic Islands closed 2024 with solid growth, outperforming Spain and the EU. Tourism continues to break records, driving the economy, while the services sector and construction maintain their expansion.
