The month of February has ended with water reserves at 51% in the Balearic Islands<\/strong>, remaining at the same level as the previous month<\/strong> but three points below the 54%<\/strong> recorded in the same period last year<\/strong>. This data confirms a trend of reserves below historical levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

By islands, Mallorca<\/strong> maintains 52%<\/strong> of its capacity, while Menorca<\/strong> remains at 51%<\/strong>. Ibiza<\/strong>, however, has experienced a slight decline, dropping from 36% to 34%<\/strong>. In general terms, the situation in the Balearic Islands reflects a decrease compared to previous years, which raises concerns about water availability in the medium and long term<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Changes in alert scenarios<\/h3>\n

The evolution of reserves has led to variations in alert scenarios. The demand unit (UD) of es Pla<\/em><\/strong> has seen the most significant improvement, moving from alert to pre-alert<\/strong>. On the other hand, the UD of Tramuntana Sud<\/em><\/strong> has suffered the most notable decline<\/strong>, entering pre-alert<\/strong>. Currently, only 8.1% of the territory<\/strong> (UD Tramuntana Nord<\/em><\/strong>) is in a state of normality<\/strong>, while 91.9% of the archipelago<\/strong> remains on pre-alert, affecting the UDs of Menorca, Art\u00e0, Manacor-Felanitx, Migjorn, es Pla, Palma-Alc\u00fadia, Tramuntana Sud, Ibiza, and Formentera<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On a global scale, the Hydrographic Demarcation Index<\/strong> (0.457) remains below last year’s value<\/strong> (0.464) and that recorded two years ago<\/strong> (0.553), confirming a progressive decline in water availability.<\/p>\n

A February with normal rainfall and warmer temperatures<\/h3>\n

According to the State Meteorological Agency<\/strong> (AEMET), February has been considered a normal month in terms of rainfall<\/strong>, with an average of 43.4 l\/m\u00b2<\/strong> in the archipelago, a figure close to the 48.9 l\/m\u00b2 usually expected<\/strong>. By islands, Mallorca<\/strong> recorded 47.3 l\/m\u00b2, in line with its historical average<\/strong> (47.7 l\/m\u00b2), while Menorca<\/strong> had a dry month<\/strong>, with only 26.9 l\/m\u00b2 compared to the usual 48.1 l\/m\u00b2. In the Piti\u00fcses, Ibiza<\/strong> experienced a slightly wet month<\/strong> (37.7 l\/m\u00b2 vs 35.5 l\/m\u00b2 historically), while Formentera<\/strong> suffered a significant deficit<\/strong> (17.0 l\/m\u00b2 vs 33.7 l\/m\u00b2 historically).<\/p>\n

The interannual rainfall percentage in the Balearic Islands stands at 96%, with variations between islands: Mallorca reaches 97%, Menorca 93%, and the Piti\u00fcses 96%.<\/p>\n

Additionally, February has been a warm month in the archipelago, with an average temperature of 11.5 \u00baC<\/strong> and an anomaly of +0.9 \u00baC<\/strong> compared to the historical average. This increase in temperatures has led to higher evaporation and reduced aquifer recharge<\/strong>, worsening the water reserve situation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
