The Government of the Balearic Islands<\/strong> has announced a historic investment<\/strong> of over \u20ac1.12 billion<\/strong> to boost sustainability and modernisation<\/strong> across the archipelago, leveraging the resources from the sustainable tourism tax<\/strong> and Next Generation EU funds<\/strong>. This initiative was presented by President Margalida Prohens<\/strong> during the inauguration of Fitur 2025<\/strong><\/a>, the International Tourism Fair in Madrid.<\/p>\n

Prohens emphasised that this mobilisation of resources is the largest ever carried out<\/strong> in the Balearic Islands, focused on the modernisation of the tourism offer and the preservation of the natural environment<\/strong>. In total, \u20ac260 million<\/strong> from the European funds and \u20ac860 million<\/strong> collected from the sustainable tourism tax introduced in 2016 will be managed.<\/p>\n

The funds will be primarily allocated to projects related to environmental sustainability and water cycle management<\/strong>. Additionally, efforts will focus on tourism de-seasonalisation<\/strong>, cultural heritage conservation<\/strong>, technological innovation<\/strong>, and training and quality employment<\/strong> in the tourism sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Launch of the “La raz\u00f3n eres t\u00fa” campaign<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The commitment to the sustainable transformation of the Balearic destination has led to the creation of the communication campaign “La raz\u00f3n eres t\u00fa”. This effort aims to raise awareness among both residents and visitors about the positive impact of the investments, aligning tourism success with sustainability and quality of life.<\/p>\n

Prohens emphasised that this campaign speaks to the ambitious challenge of transformation: “The Balearic Islands are the first destination to confront with determination the challenge faced by all successful tourist destinations: to combine success with sustainability and the well-being of residents and visitors. A transformation of which, as the campaign we have presented today says, the reason is you.”<\/p>\n

Advances in the Sustainability Pact<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In her speech, the President also announced a new meeting<\/strong> of the Social and Political Pact for the Economic, Social, and Environmental Sustainability of the Balearic Islands<\/strong><\/a> on 27th February<\/strong>. During this meeting, a consensus document of objectives<\/strong> will be presented following the first phase of work led by Professor Antoni Riera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The document, based on the 576 citizen proposals<\/strong><\/a> collected through the Pact’s online platform, will mark the start of the next phase of concrete proposals, including those directly promoted by the Government.
