This decline is mainly attributed to <strong>drought conditions<\/strong>, the <strong>uneven distribution of rainfall<\/strong> during <strong>key vegetative periods<\/strong>, and the impact of <strong>wood pigeons<\/strong> on some vineyards, particularly in Ibiza and Formentera.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_112680\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-112680\" class=\"size-full wp-image-112680\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Uvas-vino.webp\" alt=\"Red grapes, wine production\" width=\"780\" height=\"518\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-112680\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: CAIB.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Increasing vineyard area, declining yield<\/h3>\n<p>Despite the <strong>upward trend in vineyard area<\/strong>, which has grown by <strong>2.8%<\/strong> compared to 2023, grape production has been seriously affected. In 2024, <strong>8,515 tonnes of grapes<\/strong> were harvested, a <strong>23.2% decrease<\/strong> from the <strong>11,092 tonnes in 2023<\/strong>. This reduction was particularly significant for <strong>red grapes<\/strong>, with a decline of <strong>26.1%<\/strong>, compared to an <strong>18.4%<\/strong> drop for <strong>white grapes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yield per hectare has also dropped<\/strong>, from <strong>5,257 kg\/ha<\/strong> in 2023 to <strong>3,926 kg\/ha<\/strong> in 2024, representing a <strong>25%<\/strong> reduction.<\/p>\n<h3>Data by origin designations and wine types<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Production by origin designations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IGP Vi de la Terra Formentera<\/strong>: -43.2%<\/li>\n<li><strong>IGP Vi de la Terra Eivissa<\/strong>: -22.3%<\/li>\n<li><strong>DO Binissalem<\/strong>: -27.7%<\/li>\n<li><strong>DO Pla i Llevant<\/strong>: -25.4%<\/li>\n<li><strong>IGP Vi de la Terra Mallorca<\/strong>: -17.9%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vi de la Terra Illa de Menorca<\/strong>: -5%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Production by wine types:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Red wines<\/strong>: -26.9%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ros\u00e9 wines<\/strong>: -21.2%<\/li>\n<li><strong>White wines<\/strong>: -17.1%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Uneven impact across the islands<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Formentera<\/strong> recorded the steepest production decline due to the combined impact of drought and wood pigeons. <strong>Ibiza<\/strong> followed a similar trend, with a reduction above the regional average.
