Photo: CAIB.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Growth by Islands and Sectors<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mallorca:<\/strong> growth of 3.3%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Menorca:<\/strong> increase of 2.7%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Piti\u00fcses:<\/strong> growth of 2.5%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All economic sectors reported growth:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Services:<\/strong> +3.7%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Primary sector:<\/strong> +1.8%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Industry:<\/strong> +1.2%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Construction:<\/strong> +0.7%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Labour Market<\/h3>\n<p>The increase in economic activity translated into a significant rise in employment across all sectors. In November 2024, the average number of affiliates reached <strong>509,864<\/strong>. The sectors with the highest growth in affiliation were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Services:<\/strong> +4% (over 400,000 affiliates).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Construction:<\/strong> +2.2% (62,441 affiliates, a historic record).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Industry:<\/strong> +1.8% (over 30,000 affiliates).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Inflation and Turnover<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Inflation:<\/strong> +2.8% (core inflation: +2.9%).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Services sector turnover:<\/strong> +6.6%, far above the national figure of 2.6%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retail trade sales:<\/strong> +0.5%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tourism<\/h3>\n<p>Tourism remains a cornerstone of the Balearic Islands&#8217; economy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tourist spending:<\/strong> \u20ac21.695 billion by October (+12.1% compared to 2023).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Average tourist spending per day:<\/strong> \u20ac190 (a historic high).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Number of tourists:<\/strong> 18.1 million by October (+4.7%).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overnight stays:<\/strong> +3.9% (6.3 average days of stay).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Air traffic:<\/strong> +5.5%; <strong>maritime traffic:<\/strong> -1%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Industrial Sectors and External Trade<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Industrial production:<\/strong> increasing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trade balance:<\/strong> surplus of \u20ac731.2 million (+7.5%).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Construction:<\/strong> increase in approved projects (+35% in free housing starts).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Price of free housing:<\/strong> +5.8% in the third quarter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Challenges and Housing Policies<\/h3>\n<p>The report also highlights the housing challenge in the Balearic Islands, underscoring the rapid population growth:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Population growth (2001-2023):<\/strong> +46.3% (compared to +18.7% nationally).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Housing stock growth (2002-2023):<\/strong> +31.2% (compared to +27.9% nationally).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Average transaction price (2008-2023):<\/strong> +59.5% (compared to -2.9% in Spain).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Vice President of the Govern, <strong>Antoni Costa<\/strong>, highlighted the importance of the recovery of new construction in the Balearic Islands. &#8220;New construction is recovering in the Balearic Islands, and this is good news,&#8221; he stated, adding that in the coming years there will be a <strong>significant increase in the housing supply<\/strong>, enabling more people to access housing.
