This project will be completed in the next <strong>six months<\/strong>, marking a significant step forward in the <strong>promotion of sustainable mobility in the city<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-41523 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/bicipalma-e1732719934543.jpg\" alt=\"bicipalma\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/bicipalma-e1732719934543-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/bicipalma-e1732719934543.jpg 780w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of these stations, <strong>six<\/strong> will be strategically located within the <strong>university campus to facilitate internal mobility<\/strong>, while the other <strong>three<\/strong> will be situated along the <strong>Valldemossa road and the Son Sardina neighbourhood<\/strong>, improving access to the university from central Palma.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Bicipalma operates <strong>1,080 bicycles<\/strong>, of which <strong>429 are electric<\/strong>. With this expansion, the system will reach <strong>25 stations and 490 docking points<\/strong>, establishing itself as a benchmark for sustainable mobility in Mallorca.<\/p>\n<h3>New Bicipalma stations<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>UIB Metro:<\/strong> A key connection point between the metro and the Bicipalma system. Users can park or pick up bicycles to move around the campus.<\/li>\n<li><strong>UIB Library:<\/strong> Close to buildings such as Margalida Comas i Camps, Anselm Turmeda, Guillem Cifre de Colonya, and Beatriu de Pin\u00f3s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>UIB Jovellanos:<\/strong> Links to buildings such as Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos and Guillem Cifre de Colonya.<\/li>\n<li><strong>UIB Rectorate:<\/strong> Provides services to the Son Lled\u00f3 building and its surroundings, as well as connecting with other stations on campus.<\/li>\n<li><strong>UIB Campus Sport:<\/strong> Enhances internal mobility, especially for those using public transport, connecting with the Campus Sport facilities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>UIB School of Hospitality:<\/strong> Serves the School of Hospitality and the adjacent car park, improving mobility in a less central campus area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Promoting an &#8220;eco-friendly, sustainable, and healthy alternative&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Toni Deudero<\/strong>, Deputy Mayor for Mobility, emphasised that the initiative aims to \u201cstrengthen the connection between Palma and the UIB, taking advantage of the Valldemossa road cycle lane to promote an <strong>eco-friendly, sustainable, and healthy alternative to public or private transport<\/strong>.\u201d Additionally, he highlighted that the new stations within the campus will enable \u201c<strong>faster and more accessible internal mobility<\/strong>, optimising travel times between buildings and encouraging the use of bicycles as an effective tool for university life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Adri\u00e0 Muntaner<\/strong>, Vice-Rector of the UIB, stated that this Bicipalma expansion \u201cis part of the University\u2019s <strong>Sustainable Mobility Plan<\/strong>, aligned with the Balearic Government, the Council of Mallorca, and the Palma City Council.
