The annual report on Violence Against Women<\/strong> in Palma<\/strong> reports 4,641 cases of gender-based violence<\/strong> in 2023<\/strong>. This represents an 18% increase<\/strong> compared to 2022<\/strong>, with 692 more complaints<\/strong>. There were also 365 sexual freedom offences<\/strong> recorded. Furthermore, there has been an increase in cyber sexual crimes<\/strong>, linked to control and intimidation through social media, especially among teenagers and young women<\/strong>. Protection orders<\/strong> have increased by 35%<\/strong>, totalling 970<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Protection and Support for Victims<\/h3>\n

In 2023, 3,426 women<\/strong> were included in the comprehensive monitoring system<\/strong>, representing a 7% increase<\/strong> from 2022. Additionally, 2,331 women received police protection<\/strong>, marking a 10% increase<\/strong>. The SAMVVM (Support Service for Victims of Gender-Based Violence) accommodated 301 people<\/strong>, including women and their children<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The SAIVM (Municipal Comprehensive Support Service for Gender-Based Violence) supported 1,221 victims<\/strong>: 1,009 in the “Dones” Programme and 212 in the “Fills i Filles” Programme. There was a 16% increase in new victims<\/strong> receiving assistance. The Local Police managed 888 proceedings<\/strong>, more than double<\/strong> the previous year, and supported 587 victims<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The 24-hour Support Service handled 4,657 calls<\/strong>, 2,343 from Palma<\/strong>. Of these, 4 out of 6 were emergencies<\/strong>. Additionally, 174 accompaniments for victims<\/strong> were carried out.<\/p>\n

The Palma City Council presented the report, prepared by the Technical Unit of the Equality Department, as part of the 25N International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The Equality Department has highlighted the efforts of the municipal services SAIVM and SAMVVM, which supported 3,543 people<\/strong> in total.<\/p>\n

“The figures show that we are facing a challenge that concerns us all as a society<\/strong>, one that we must address with concrete policies,” the City Council emphasised, reaffirming its commitment to “continue strengthening resources for assistance and protection<\/strong>, but also for prevention<\/strong>, through awareness campaigns<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n
