The fifth edition<\/strong> of the Green Flags Movement<\/strong><\/a> concluded this summer<\/strong> with the collection of 14,447 tonnes of glass containers<\/strong> by hospitality establishments and coastal municipalities in the Balearic Islands<\/strong>. In this regard, the Government<\/strong> and Ecovidrio<\/strong><\/a> have awarded the green flag to Alc\u00fadia<\/strong>, Sant Antoni de Portmany<\/strong> (Ibiza), and the Consell de Menorca<\/strong>, who are repeat winners, as well as Palma<\/strong> and Calvi\u00e0<\/strong>, who join the ranks for the first time. This recognition highlights them as the most responsible and sustainability-committed coastal municipalities<\/strong> in the islands. A total of 2,500 hospitality establishments<\/strong> and 30 municipalities<\/strong> in the archipelago participated in this initiative.<\/p>\n

During the green flag award ceremony, the Director General of Circular Economy, Energy Transition, and Climate Change, Diego Viu<\/strong>, highlighted the work of the municipalities and made an appeal to Balearic citizens: “This is a task within everyone\u2019s reach<\/strong>, not just for the big or small players. Campaigns like this aim to reduce waste and reuse it productively<\/strong>. This is the path forward for all: citizens, businesses, organisations, and public administration, moving towards a circular economy for the benefit of the environment.”<\/p>\n

Data from Palma and Calvi\u00e0<\/h3>\n

In Palma, over 3,150 tonnes<\/strong> of glass containers were collected this summer, with a participation rate of 99.1%<\/strong> of the hospitality sector<\/strong>. Meanwhile, Calvi\u00e0 gathered over 1,490 tonnes<\/strong>, with a Horeca sector participation rate of 95.9%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Green Flags Movement is a summer campaign by Ecovidrio, a non-profit organisation responsible for managing the recycling of glass containers in Spain. The campaign aims to highlight and recognise the commitment of local hospitality and municipalities to glass recycling<\/strong>, environmental protection<\/strong>, the circular economy<\/strong>, and sustainable development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
