The Aficine Augusta cinema in Palma<\/strong> will host the CUTRECON On Tour: Palma de Mallorca<\/strong> event on 16th November<\/strong> starting at 18:00<\/strong>. This \u201cwild and festive\u201d marathon will showcase three of the \u2018worst films in the world\u2019<\/strong>, according to the organisers, who are also responsible for the international CUTRECON festival.<\/p>\n

After thirteen years of filling the most iconic cinemas in Madrid, the CUTRECON experience comes to Palma for the first time<\/strong>, promising \u201claughter and bewilderment\u201d<\/strong> with films that are \u201cso bad, they\u2019re good,\u201d in the words of the organisers. The audience will enjoy \u201cthree shameless rip-offs\u201d<\/strong> of iconic franchises<\/strong>, including an unofficial Korean<\/strong> adaptation of Dragon Ball<\/strong><\/em>, an Indonesian<\/strong> imitation of Terminator<\/strong><\/em>, and a Turkish<\/strong> version of Star Wars<\/strong><\/em>. All films will be presented in original versions with Spanish subtitles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A Korean Son Goku<\/h3>\n

The marathon will kick off at 18:00<\/strong> with Dragon Ball Zero<\/em><\/strong> (1990), the first film adaptation of the famous Japanese manga. The movie is filled with \u201cstuffed animals, geeks in costumes, and poorly concealed wires, in a bacchanalia of blunders produced in South Korea and shown in cinemas,\u201d explains Carlos Palencia, director of CUTRECON. This \u201chilarious, ultra-low-budget film\u201d closely follows the first episodes of Dragon Ball<\/em>, albeit with some \u201cuproarious liberties,\u201d adds Palencia, noting that \u201cthe character designs are laughable, with cast members resembling a carnival of giant heads.\u201d To add further intrigue, the child playing Son Goku is actor Heo Sung-tae<\/strong>, who would later become famous worldwide as the villain in Netflix\u2019s Squid Game<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The ‘other’ Terminator<\/em><\/h3>\n

At 20:00<\/strong>, the screen will feature Lady Terminator<\/em><\/strong> (1989), a unique Indonesian production that shamelessly plagiarises James Cameron\u2019s Terminator<\/em> (1984), but with a twist: rather than Arnold Schwarzenegger, an unscrupulous woman takes the lead. \u201cShe won\u2019t hesitate to kill or have sex indiscriminately with any living being in a crusade of excess, packed with brutal violence, wild special effects, an \u201980s synthesiser soundtrack, and scenes blatantly copied from the original film,\u201d Palencia describes.<\/p>\n

Star Wars<\/em>, Turkish style<\/h3>\n

To conclude the marathon, Dunyayi Kurtaran Adam<\/em><\/strong> (1982) will be screened at 22:00<\/strong>. Known popularly as \u201cthe Turkish Star Wars,\u201d this film will be shown in a high-definition 2K restoration. The organisers describe it as a \u201cgem of trash cinema,\u201d inspired, like so many other titles, by the success of Star Wars<\/strong><\/em> (1977). It tells the story of two pilots stranded on a remote desert planet, who ultimately help its inhabitants overthrow an evil tyrant using trampolines, cardboard swords, cheap costumes, and a total lack of shame.<\/p>\n

The uniqueness of Dunyayi Kurtaran Adam<\/em> lies not only in its (poor) imitation of elements that made Star Wars<\/em> famous, such as spaceships, robots, warriors with powers, or sinister emperors, but also in taking cinematic audacity to a new level. Due to the loss of some sets, the crew decided to \u201cborrow\u201d a print of George Lucas\u2019s film by sneaking into a cinema at night, cutting out the scenes they needed from the celluloid, inserting them into their new film, and then returning the mutilated print without anyone knowing.<\/p>\n

CUTRECON On Tour: Palma de Mallorca is organised by the team behind the international CUTRECON festival, the Trash-O-Rama distributor, the creators of the film Jostissi de Carrer\u00f3<\/em>, the Nit de Matanzes film showcase, and the authors of the book Palma Grindhouse<\/em>.
