The Consell de Mallorca<\/strong> will allocate six out of every ten euros<\/strong> to social policies<\/strong> in its 2025 budget<\/strong>. The budget for this purpose will be \u20ac391 million<\/strong>, an 11% increase<\/strong> compared to 2024. This was announced by the president of the island institution, Lloren\u00e7 Galm\u00e9s<\/strong>, during the presentation of the Consell\u2019s 2025 budget, which will total \u20ac695,477,183.14<\/strong>; \u20ac49.5 million more<\/strong> than this year, representing an increase of 7.65%<\/strong>. Galm\u00e9s highlighted that these are the largest and most social budgets in the institution’s history<\/strong>, with a focus on “caring for people, especially the most vulnerable: the elderly, people with dependencies, people with disabilities, and children”.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the president of the Consell de Mallorca highlighted the 28.8% increase<\/strong> in the budget for the Directorate of Families<\/strong>, which includes equality policies and measures to combat gender violence<\/strong>. This increase will include the launch of the first crisis centre to support victims of sexual violence in Mallorca<\/strong>. He also mentioned the 10% increase<\/strong> in the budget for the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS) to \u20ac316.3 million<\/strong>. New facilities, including residences in Miquel Mir, Inca<\/strong>, and Sant Josep<\/strong>, located in the Hermanitas building in Palma<\/strong>, will receive \u20ac4 million<\/strong>, and the budget for the Directorate of Disability<\/strong> will rise by 7.4%<\/strong> to a total of \u20ac84.3 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to the president of the Consell de Mallorca, the 2025 budget reflects a record investment in infrastructure, municipal services, culture, and combating illegal tourism<\/strong>. He stated that “these budgets mark the consolidation of the changes initiated in May 2023<\/strong>, moving forward rather than regressing in areas such as language, equality, and the environment.”<\/p>\n

Record Investment in Combatting Illegal Tourism<\/h3>\n

The Tourism<\/strong> Department will have a budget of \u20ac16.9 million<\/strong>, an increase of 2.1%<\/strong> over 2024. Notably, \u20ac1.2 million<\/strong> will be added to hire more staff for the Sanctions Service to process cases. The Department of Tourism has also requested \u20ac8.3 million from the Sustainable Tourism Tax<\/strong> for 2025: \u20ac1.3 million to tackle illegal tourism<\/strong> and \u20ac7 million to promote responsible tourism<\/strong>. This brings the total for combatting illegal tourism to \u20ac2.5 million<\/strong>, an increase of 39%. On the other hand, the budget for the Mallorca Tourism Foundation<\/strong> will be reduced by \u20ac1.4 million<\/strong>, or 19%<\/strong> compared to 2024. Meanwhile, the budget for the Consorcio de la Bolsa de Alojamientos Tur\u00edsticos<\/strong> will be \u20ac2.1 million for 2025, a 37.5% increase.<\/p>\n

\u20ac30 Million Increase for Roads<\/h3>\n

Galm\u00e9s also highlighted the increased contribution from the Balearic Government<\/strong>, which will reach \u20ac417 million<\/strong>, \u20ac4 million more<\/strong> than this year. Of this, \u20ac30 million<\/strong> will go towards road infrastructure projects<\/strong>, based on an agreement between the two institutions to be formalised in the coming weeks. Galm\u00e9s expressed his gratitude for the “support and responsiveness of the government led by Marga Prohens to meet the needs of the people of Mallorca” and reiterated the request to the central government for \u20ac230 million<\/strong> under the road agreement.<\/p>\n

Territory, Mobility, and Infrastructure<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The budget for the Department of Territory, Mobility, and Infrastructure will be \u20ac132.7 million<\/strong>, a 1% increase<\/strong> over 2024. Of this, \u20ac42.5 million will go towards improving existing infrastructure. An additional \u20ac20 million will fund new projects, such as the construction of civic roads from P\u00f2rtol to Santa Maria, Ariany, Art\u00e0 Nord, Peguera to Camp de Mar, Son Ferriol to Hostalots, and s\u2019Oliv\u00f3<\/strong>, costing \u20ac9.6 million. The budget for the Territorial Defence Agency<\/strong> will increase to \u20ac4.2 million, a 13.3% rise.<\/p>\n

Economic Promotion and Local Development<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Economic Promotion and Local Development Department will have a budget of \u20ac43.1 million<\/strong>, a 1% increase<\/strong> over this year. Highlights include \u20ac20 million for the Works and Services Plan<\/strong>; \u20ac3 million for the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans<\/strong> (PAESC); and \u20ac5 million for water cycle aid<\/strong>. Additionally, subsidies for local products will increase to \u20ac2 million, representing a \u20ac600,000 increase over 2024.<\/p>\n

Culture and Heritage<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The budget for Culture and Heritage will be \u20ac34.9 million<\/strong>, a 7.4% increase<\/strong> over 2024. The Misericordia will continue to be promoted as a cultural hub in Mallorca. The budget for the Mallorca Cultural Institute<\/strong> will increase to \u20ac3.8 million, and the Literary Awards fund will receive an additional \u20ac140,000. The Directorate of Heritage will allocate \u20ac350,000 for the ses Fontanelles exhibition<\/strong> and \u20ac440,000 for the restoration of the Sang nativity scene<\/strong>. The Handicraft Area will allocate \u20ac300,000 to create two certifications: Artisan Brand and Mallorca Fashion Brand, with the Craftsmanship Awards fund increasing to \u20ac40,000. The budget for Teatre Principal de Palma<\/strong> will rise to \u20ac6.7 million, with \u20ac1.5 million allocated to the Mallorca Literary Foundation<\/strong> and \u20ac870,000 to the Museum Consortium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Environment, Rural Areas, and Sports<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Environment, Rural Areas, and Sports Department will have a budget of \u20ac38.8 million<\/strong>, an 8% increase<\/strong> over this year. Notable projects include the Camina per Mallorca<\/strong> initiative, with a budget of \u20ac2.2 million, of which \u20ac1.2 million is funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax. The refuge management<\/strong> budget has a slight increase, totalling \u20ac2.52 million. Sports<\/strong> will receive \u20ac6 million, and \u20ac500,000 will be allocated to overnight stays for the elderly. Subsidies to sports federations will rise by \u20ac200,000 to a total budget of \u20ac2.1 million. The budget for the Mallorca Equestrian Institute<\/strong> will increase by 18.8% to \u20ac4.7 million in 2024.<\/p>\n

Finance and Public Administration<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Finance and Public Administration Department will have a budget of \u20ac63.1 million<\/strong>, a 2.7% increase<\/strong> over this year.
