<\/p>\nMallorca’s public transport system is about to undergo a major transformation in connectivity and accessibility through the integration of the TIB (Interurban Transport of the Balearic Islands) and EMT (Municipal Transport Company of Palma) networks. This collaboration, officially announced last Tuesday, aims to unify both networks technologically and in terms of fare systems, providing a more convenient experience for users across the island and encouraging public transportation use.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of this integration is the creation of a single card that allows users to travel across different transport networks without needing multiple passes. This **Intermodal Card** will be linked to a single wallet, enabling discounts based on user profiles and simplifying payments for both urban and interurban routes. By late 2025, EMT buses will also accept payment by bank card, an option already available on TIB services.<\/p>\n
The network integration will feature a single transport card that can be reloaded via a mobile app, website, and physical locations managed by both entities. This system will be organized into concentric fare zones, applying discounts for specific profiles (youth, pensioners, students, etc.) on all routes, marking an advancement toward a fully integrated and efficient public transport system.<\/p>\n
Authorities say this integration will allow Palma and the rest of the island to adopt a common transportation policy, facilitating mobility and promoting public transport as a viable alternative to private vehicle use. The card will also feature a virtual version for mobile devices and improve user experience with options such as QR ticket purchases and advance payment systems. Additionally, information on waiting times, occupancy, and routes will be available in real time, optimizing travel planning.<\/p>\n
