The Diada de Mallorca 2024<\/strong>, one of the island’s most important celebrations, this year coincides with the 40th anniversary of the island’s flag<\/strong>. This year’s edition features an extensive programme running from Saturday 7th September<\/strong> to Thursday 26th September<\/strong>. Although the central day is 12th September<\/strong>\u2014in contrast to previous years when it was on 31st December (more information about the date change can be found at this link<\/a>)\u2014the Consell de Mallorca has prepared nearly three weeks of activities to commemorate Mallorca\u2019s history, culture, and traditions<\/strong>, spread across the municipalities of Palma, S\u00f3ller, Llucmajor, Binissalem, Inca, Santany\u00ed, Sineu, and Marratx\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Diada de Mallorca 2024 will feature a varied range of events designed for all ages and interests<\/strong>. From official and solemn acts<\/strong> to concerts<\/strong>, exhibitions<\/strong>, craft fairs<\/strong>, gastronomy<\/strong>, literature<\/strong>, and sports activities<\/strong>, among others, the programme reflects the island’s rich cultural diversity<\/strong>. Each activity is an invitation to explore and appreciate Mallorca\u2019s multiple facets<\/strong>, from its deeply-rooted traditions to its vibrant contemporary culture. Below are some highlights:<\/p>\n

Concerts<\/h2>\n

Music is one of the major highlights of Diada de Mallorca 2024. Throughout the celebrations, various concerts featuring different styles and genres will be held for both residents and visitors. For instance, on 8th September, the Convent de Santa Magdalena in Palma will host a concert by Qvinta Essen\u00e7ia<\/strong> at 8:00 PM. On the central day, 12th September, there will be a series of musical performances. At 6:00 PM, the Banda Municipal de Palma<\/strong> will perform at the Pati del Homes of the Centre Cultural la Miseric\u00f2rdia, followed at 7:00 PM by a concert by Nou Romancer<\/strong> at the same venue. The day will culminate with a grand concert by the Banda Simf\u00f2nica de les Illes Balears<\/strong> at 8:00 PM.<\/p>\n

On 13th September, the Teatre Principal d’Inca will host an opera and zarzuela concert featuring tenor Eduardo Sandoval<\/strong> and pianist Miquel Estelrich<\/strong> at 7:00 PM. Finally, on 26th September, renowned pianist Marco Mezquida<\/strong> and the Orquestra Simf\u00f2nica de les Illes Balears<\/strong> will close this edition of Diada with a concert at the Teatre Principal de Palma at 8:00 PM.<\/p>\n

Craft fairs<\/h2>\n

Fairs are an essential component of Diada de Mallorca 2024, offering a platform to showcase and celebrate the island\u2019s traditional and rural crafts. On 7th and 8th September, the Hip\u00f2drom de Son Pardo<\/strong> will host the Fira de ca\u00e7a i del m\u00f3n rural<\/strong>, an event gathering enthusiasts and professionals from the hunting and rural world to share experiences and knowledge.<\/p>\n

Additionally, from 13th to 15th September, the Centre Cultural la Miseric\u00f2rdia<\/strong> in Palma will host the Fira d’Artesania<\/strong> and the Setmana del Llibre en Catal\u00e0<\/strong> (also on 12th September), featuring artisan products, interactive workshops, book presentations, and music and dance performances. This fair, blending tradition and creativity, is ideal for exploring the richness of Mallorcan crafts and enjoying family-friendly activities.<\/p>\n

Official acts<\/h2>\n

Diada de Mallorca 2024 also includes official acts highlighting the historical and cultural significance<\/strong> of the celebration. On 12th September, a floral tribute to King Jaume II<\/strong> will take place at the Cathedral of Mallorca at 11:00 AM. This solemn event, which requires prior registration, honours the memory of the king and celebrates Mallorca\u2019s historical heritage.<\/p>\n

On the same day, at 7:00 PM, the Teatre Principal de Palma will host the presentation of the Premis Honors i Distincions del Consell de Mallorca<\/strong>, recognising individuals and institutions that have contributed to the island\u2019s social, cultural, and economic development.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Exhibition of the Book of Freedoms and Privileges of the Kingdom of Mallorca<\/strong>, held at the Palau del Consell de Mallorca in Palma, will offer a unique view of historical documents detailing the privileges and concessions granted during the Kingdom of Mallorca.<\/p>\n

Children’s entertainment<\/h2>\n

Children will also have their own space in Diada de Mallorca 2024 with a variety of activities designed for them. Among other events, the children\u2019s show “Tenc ganes de jugar”<\/strong> by Mel i Sucre will take place at the Fira d’Artesania in the Centre Cultural la Miseric\u00f2rdia at 6:00 PM on 13th September, providing a fun and educational experience for kids and their families.<\/p>\n

On 15th September, the programme includes the puppet show “Bruixeries”<\/strong> by Toni Masegosa, as well as the children\u2019s show “Spaguetti Yey\u00e9”<\/strong> at the Fira d’Artesania. Additionally, a traditional instruments workshop with C\u00e0ndid Trujillo will be offered to spark children\u2019s interest in Mallorcan music and culture.<\/p>\n
