The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the Balearic Islands has warned of an Isolated High Level Depression (DANA) that will affect Mallorca from Wednesday 14 August. The DANA, or cold drop, will put the island on orange alert with forecasts of heavy rain and storms accompanied by hail, which can exceed 2 centimetres in diameter, and very strong gusts of wind that can reach 100 km\/h.<\/p>\n

The orange alert will be in force from 10:00 hours on Wednesday until 17:59 hours on Thursday 15 August. The forecast, of 40%-70%, is that up to 50 litres of water per square metre may fall in one hour (in 2 or 3 hours more than 100 litres per square metre may accumulate) throughout the island territory.<\/p>\n

The DANA will form due to a trough of cold air from the Atlantic that will cross the Peninsula and its radius of action will mainly affect the east, when it comes into contact with the Mediterranean Sea, which is recording very warm temperatures.<\/p>\n

In any case, according to the State Meteorological Agency in the Balearic Islands it is still premature to define how the rainfall will be distributed and which areas will be most affected.<\/p>\n

Falling temperatures<\/h2>\n

From Wednesday onwards, daytime temperatures are forecast to fall across the board, with highs expected to be between 25 and 30\u00baC. Meanwhile, night-time temperatures are expected to remain unchanged.<\/p>\n

On Friday the Aemet forecasts an improvement in the weather in Mallorca, as the DANA will move eastwards. Thus, for the weekend, stability will once again prevail in Mallorca.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Securing moorings for the DANA in Mallorca<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

For its part, PortsIB has called on users of boat moorings in the ports of the Balearic Islands to check the condition of their moorings in view of the storm forecast, in order to prevent damage and ensure that boats remain in safe conditions during bad weather. In view of the orange warning for heavy storms decreed by the Aemet, boat owners are advised to check the condition of their boat, the mooring lines, remove awnings and cushions, place the fenders correctly and check the drains of the boat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
