The Palma City Council<\/strong> has paid tribute to Juana Camili\u00f3n<\/strong>, the Palma-born athlete<\/strong> who won the silver medal<\/strong> in the 3×3 Basketball<\/strong> event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games<\/strong> last Monday. Camili\u00f3n became the first Mallorcan athlete<\/strong> to win a medal at the recent international competition, an achievement further highlighted by the bronze medals<\/strong> won by the canoeists Joan Toni Moreno<\/strong> (C2 500) and Marcus Cooper<\/strong> (K4 500)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the recognition event for the Palma-born medallist, the Mayor of Palma, Mart\u00ednez Llabr\u00e9s, stated, “we wanted to pay tribute to you for this great achievement<\/strong>, but also for everything it represents and the work behind<\/strong> this great result. There is no doubt that achieving success and the goals one sets requires talent<\/strong>, but also a lot of effort<\/strong>, perseverance<\/strong>, sacrifice<\/strong>, often self-denial<\/strong>, teamwork<\/strong>, and it is in these aspects where the greatness<\/strong> of an athlete is demonstrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mart\u00ednez Llabr\u00e9s also emphasised that the silver won by Camili\u00f3n is a just reward<\/strong> for a brilliant career<\/strong> that began at Club B\u00e0squet Molinar, continued at Bah\u00eda San Agust\u00edn, and progressed through other clubs that have seen her grow both as a person and as an athlete, accumulating significant successes, now crowned with an Olympic silver medal.”<\/p>\n

Reception at Cort<\/h2>\n

The event took place in the Plenary Hall of Cort and was attended by the Mayor of Palma, as well as the Secretary of State for Culture and Sport, Pedro Vidal; the Minister for Territory, Mobility and Infrastructure of the Consell de Mallorca, Fernando Rubio; the President of the Balearic Basketball Federation, Juanjo Talens; and the President of CB Badia Sant Agust\u00ed, Guillem Boscana, along with Deputy Mayors Lourdes Roca and Lloren\u00e7 Bauz\u00e1; the City Councillor for the PSIB-PSOE, Daniel Oliveira, and the City Councillors for VOX, Jero Mayans and Sara Cerd\u00f3.<\/p>\n
