A group of twenty Sahrawi girls and boys<\/strong> visited the Palma Aquarium<\/strong> as part of the activity programme included in the initiative Vacances en Pau<\/em><\/strong>, promoted by the Consell de Mallorca<\/strong>. The Councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Fuster<\/strong>, the President of the Fons Mallorqu\u00ed de Solidaritat i Cooperaci\u00f3, Lloren\u00e7 Perell\u00f3<\/strong>, and the President of the Associaci\u00f3 d\u2019Amics del Poble Sahrau\u00ed de les Illes Balears, Catalina Rosell\u00f3<\/strong>, accompanied the host families during a visit in which they were able to tour the aquarium facilities to learn about the marine world through entertainment and fun<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Councillor for the Presidency reiterated the commitment to the Sahrawi people<\/strong> and explained that, in addition to financial support for the Associaci\u00f3 d\u2019Amics del Poble Sahrau\u00ed through the Fons Mallorqu\u00ed de Solidaritat i Cooperaci\u00f3, “it is important to offer activities that provide new experiences<\/strong>“. Antoni Fuster highlighted the solidarity of the host families<\/strong> and “the affection with which they all offer the Sahrawi children different months<\/strong>, far from the complicated situation<\/strong> they live in their country of origin”.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the activity organised by the island institution is to provide the children with a space for integration and social interaction<\/strong>, both with their host families and among themselves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

An “exemplary” host island<\/h2>\n

The Councillor for the Presidency highlighted that with this type of initiative “Mallorca<\/strong> proves to be an exemplary host island<\/strong>” in the face of the difficult situation in which the Sahrawi people find themselves, who have been living in the refugee camps in Tindouf for decades<\/strong>. Thus, he stressed that “the goal shared by institutions and families is that the children only have to worry about being children<\/strong> and feel protected<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

He also praised the work of the Associaci\u00f3 d\u2019Amics del Poble Sahrau\u00ed, focused on improving the conditions<\/strong> of people living in occupied territories of Western Sahara<\/strong>. The island institution supports the non-profit organisation through the Fons Mallorqu\u00ed, and for the first time has allocated 25,000 euros<\/strong> on an extraordinary basis, in addition to the annual aid of 80,000 euros<\/strong> to which the Consell, along with the town councils, contributes for the Sahrawi children’s health project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
