From now on, the Consell de Mallorca will impose fines of 80,000 euros for each property found to be illegally renting out on the island. Previously, fines ranged from 40,000 to 400,000 euros, and were mainly applied in the lower 40,000 euro range. With this adjustment, the new penalties will be double the previous ones, with the aim of deterring those operating outside the law and protecting the legal security of the legal tourist offer.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Marcial Rodr\u00edguez D\u00edaz, councillor for tourism, states that “illegal offer, regardless of the sector, not only seriously harms those who comply with the regulations, who are the vast majority, but also poses serious problems for coexistence, something we want to eradicate.”<\/p>\n

Furthermore, following the Decree of Administrative Simplification recently approved by the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Department of Tourism of the Consell de Mallorca will include, in all sanctioning proceedings, the obligation to cease the illegal activity from the beginning.<\/p>\n

The rights of the sanctioned person will not be altered; he\/she will be able to present allegations to the file within 7 days regarding the cessation of activity and 15 days regarding the sanction itself, in accordance with the new decree. If the allegations are not satisfactory within the 7-day period, the Tourism Department will transfer the cases to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for further action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
