The ambitious project of the Bosc Metropolit\u00e0 <\/strong>(Metropolitan Forest), an initiative that aims to provide Palma<\/strong> with a large green lung<\/strong> of more than four million square metres<\/strong>, has taken a giant step forward following the acquisition<\/strong> of the Son Quint<\/strong> estate by the City Council<\/strong>. This marks a historic milestone<\/strong> as it becomes the first large estate of municipal ownership<\/strong> integrated into the Serra de Tramuntana<\/strong>. “This 2,885,325 m\u00b2 estate, now the heritage of all the residents of Palma, is a fundamental pillar in our vision for a greener and more sustainable future,” state officials from the Palma City Council.<\/p>\n

The acquisition of Son Quint, funded with an investment of 1.5 million euros<\/strong> from the Capital City Law<\/strong>, is the starting point<\/strong> of the Bosc Metrpolit\u00e0. “The goal is to develop a network of 45 kilometres of paths and trails<\/strong>, making nature accessible to all residents and visitors,” emphasise officials from the capital of Mallorca. The incorporation of Son Quint into the municipal heritage reaffirms “the commitment to neighbourhood associations<\/strong> and to the protection of the environment, heritage, and sustainability<\/strong>. This project symbolises the opening of the city to the sea and the mountains<\/strong>, offering environmental and social benefits that will improve the quality of life for citizens,” they insist.<\/p>\n

Son Quint is a Natural Area of Special Interest<\/strong> (ANEI) and a Natural Area of Special High-Level Protection<\/strong> (AANP), encompassing important heritage, ethnological, cultural, and landscape values<\/strong>. The Metropolitan Forest project will be deployed in phases over the short, medium, and long term, integrating existing green areas and incorporating new spaces, such as the quarries of Garrigueta and Can Rossell\u00f3<\/strong>. This large infrastructure will create a green ring that will connect Palma with the Serra de Tramuntana<\/strong>, the Pedra en Sec<\/em> route<\/strong> and the Arxiduc Llu\u00eds Salvador<\/em> route<\/strong>, contributing to the “recovery of degraded areas and increasing the offer of routes for pedestrians and cyclists<\/strong>,” municipal sources point out.<\/p>\n
